Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Northeast Division, event at Maple Grove Raceway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Mike Kosky Runs 6.372/147.86, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Dan Page Runs 5.402/266.69, Now #3; No Prior Run

6:01 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 67 degrees, relative humidity 37 percent, barometer 29.43 inches, adjusted altitude 655 feet, track temperature 88 degrees.

Page had a nice run from start to finish and put himself into the field in the number three spot. Kosky started slow and eventually clicked it off at mid track. He will not make the field for eliminations. With 14 drivers left to make their second qualifying runs, Jackie Fricke is on the bump spot at 5.548.

Left Lane: Bruce Horner Runs 5.636/246.84, Now #11; Best prior run: 17.982/36.44, Was #16
Right Lane: John Finke Runs 5.504/262.23, Now #7; Best prior run: 10.285/81.62, Was #15

Finke's car bounced around a lot on the dragstrip and drifted toward the center line. He stayed with it and put himself in the field for now. With a number of good drivers left to qualify, he may not be able to stay in the field. Horner's run looked better but was not quick enough to put him into the top eight. Wayne Morris is on the bump spot at 5.547.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 9.880/115.22, Now #16; Best prior run: 10.117/115.85, Was #16
Right Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.518/257.73, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.890/225.48, Was #14

Shields launched, shook the rear tires really hard and gave up on this run...all before he reached the 60-foot marker. His 60-foot time: 1.411 seconds. Mercier had a tough ride into the field, his car lumbering and losing cylinders all the way down the track. He is on the bump spot at 5.518. There are five drivers left to make qualifying runs -- including Bill Reichert -- who are not yet in the field.

Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.352/267.59, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.578/255.97, Was #11
Right Lane: Dan Dietrich Runs 6.342/153.46, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.859/255.87, Was #14

Last week at Norwalk, Reichert did not make the field until the final qualifying session. He did the same thing again this week. His car made an aggressive start, with little tire shake, but the engine started going away at 1,000 feet. Dietrich's car was not as quick as he was this afternoon so he will not make the field. John Finke is on the bump spot at 5.504.

Left Lane: Wayne Morris Runs 5.415/263.20, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.547/258.42, Was #10
Right Lane: Mike Burns No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.645/234.82, Was #13

Burns was starting in car when the chutes came out. He was not able to make a second attempt and will be going home. Morris drove through some tire shake to make the field. He's safely in but might not stay in the fifth spot in the order. Frank Schuster is on the bump spot at 5.444. Jackie Fricke is the only non-qualified driver yet to make her second qualifying attempt.

Left Lane: Richard Bourke Runs 5.412/262.69, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.422/259.66, Was #7
Right Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.900/234.78, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.548/247.07, Was #11

Fricke's car was dropping cylinders off the starting line. She will not make the field. Bourke was quicker than this afternoon but it had no effect on the running order. There are no non-qualified drivers left in the lanes so from her on, the drivers will be running for position only.

Left Lane: Karen Stalba Runs 5.367/265.69, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.383/264.29, Was #3
Right Lane: Frank Schuster Runs 14.230/32.84, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.444/261.22, Was #8

Schuster's car started shaking the rear tires from the starting line to 330 feet, when the parachutes came out. Stalba was quicker than she was in the first session but will stay where she was in the qualifying order.

Left Lane: Manuj Rishi Kanick Runs 5.701/265.48, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.289/271.90, Was #1
Right Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 12.057/60.71, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.422/265.85, Was #7

Both drivers launched their cars and both had a lot of tire shake. Kanick and McPhillips both pedaled and both shook the tires again. McPhillips clicked it off but Kanick drove through the shake. Neither driver changed his place in the order so Kanick stays in the first place in the qualifying order.
