Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 48th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mark Wolfe Runs 7.762/141.46, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.957/205.85, Was #21

3:20 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 64 degrees, relative humidity 32 percent, barometer 28.88 inches, adjusted altitude 1,893 feet, track temperature 78 degrees.

Kurt Johnson is on the bump spot at 6.591.

Wolfe spun the tires, then got over close to the centerline.


Left Lane: JR Carr Runs 6.642/205.91, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.603/208.62, Was #18
Right Lane: Deric Kramer Runs 6.626/209.43, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.684/208.94, Was #20

Carr had a stout 0.974 60-foot time, Kramer a 0.997, both missed the cut.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.589/209.20, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.591/209.52, Was #17
Right Lane: Steve Kalkowski Runs 6.658/206.83, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.630/207.62, Was #20

Stanfield had a 0.978 60-foot time, went into the 15th spot, bumping KJ. Kalkpowski had a 0.983, but came up short on the other end.

Now Rodger Brogdon is on the bump spot at 6.589.

Left Lane: Jerry Eckman Runs 11.020/77.32, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.588/209.52, Was #13
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 8.860/110.53, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.591/209.82, Was #17

Eckman shook and slowed, KJ got further, also slowed.

The field of 16 is now determined and Allen Johnson is one of the 16, so he has now clinched the 2012 championship.

Left Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.590/209.92, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.573/210.05, Was #11
Right Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.597/209.39, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.589/209.07, Was #16

No improvement for either driver, they stay 11th and 16th.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.573/210.28, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.571/209.59, Was #9
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.629/208.49, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.588/208.84, Was #14

Morgan went to the right on the launch, a bit out of the groove.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.559/210.90, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.564/206.16, Was #8
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.571/210.41, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.574/210.83, Was #12

Coughlin improved nicely, but won't have lane choice in round one. Krisher also improved, moved up on e spot.

Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.556/211.30, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.549/211.83, Was #5
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 8.866/91.25, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.572/211.79, Was #11

Edwards shook and slowed. Enders made a good run, did not improve.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.544/211.39, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.544/211.49, Was #4
Right Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.571/210.73, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.562/211.00, Was #8

Gaines matched his prior best run, Nobile did not improve.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.518/211.99, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.534/211.79, Was #3
Right Lane: Chris McGaha Runs 6.584/209.14, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.557/210.50, Was #6

The 2012 champion made his final qualifying pass of the season and moved up one spot. McGaha failed to improve.

Allen Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.972 sec., 330ft-2.733, 660ft-4.197/168.09 mph, 1,000ft-5.456.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.552/211.89, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.527/211.76, Was #3
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.518/212.69, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.517/212.56, Was #1

Anderson failed to improve. Line also failed to improve, but only by a thousandth, and he did improve his speed.
