Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Larry Sullivan

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 48th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Jerry Eckman Runs 7.052/190.92, Now #1

1:43 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 28.80 inches, adjusted altitude 2,670 feet, track temperature 87 degrees.

The Kent Trucking GXP is honoring "Hot Rods For Heroes" this weekend and showcases three Medal of Honor recipients in the rear window.

The car sounded like it bogged slightly at the top of first gear and he was well off the pace.

Left Lane: Steve Kalkowski Runs 6.734/205.51, Now #1
Right Lane: Mark Wolfe Runs 8.386/116.72, Now #3

Kalkowski's car made a big move to the left and back to the groove on the launch, the run was a career-best anyway. Wolfe slowed before half track.

Left Lane: Deric Kramer Runs 6.639/207.53, Now #2
Right Lane: JR Carr Runs 6.636/207.02, Now #1

Two nice runs to move to the top two spots for now. That's a career-best run for Kramer.

Left Lane: Chris McGaha Runs 6.636/208.49, Now #1
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.649/207.94, Now #4

Another 6.636 - this one by McGaha. He's the faster of the two, so he gets #1, despite a couple of quick, darting moves in the first half of the run.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.603/208.84, Now #1
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.694/208.30, Now #6

WJ made a hard right turn on the launch, straightened it out without lifting, but that scrubbed off a lot of ET and speed. KJ went straight down the groove and into the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.618/208.36, Now #3
Right Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.614/208.81, Now #2

Two nice runs, KJ stays #1.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.645/207.53, Now #8
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.612/209.39, Now #2

Morgan's car did a little dance on the launch. Krisher went straight down the groove. KJ is still #1. Jerry Eckman is now on the bump spot at 7.052.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.616/208.91, Now #5
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.599/210.11, Now #1

Coughlin's car moved around a bit, Gaines went straight down the middle and into the top spot, the first driver in the fifties today.

Now Warren Johnson is on the bump spot at 6.694.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.597/210.24, Now #1
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.969/161.87, Now #15

Anderson slowed on the top half of the run. Edwards made a relatively straight run and he's now #1.

Now Greg Stanfield is on the bump spot at 6.649.

Left Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.610/209.52, Now #5
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.600/209.75, Now #3

Surprisingly, neither driver took the top spot. Enders' car made a visible move out of the groove early in her run, she handled it nicely, but that probably scrubbed off a few thousandths. Didn't see anything wrong with Nobile's.

Now Deric Kramer is on the bump spot at 6.639.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.569/211.10, Now #2
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.565/210.47, Now #1

Two very nice runs, AJ running low ET of the round. Since all he needs to do to clinch the championship is qualify for eliminations, that run might be all he needs. He's quickest, Line is fastest of the session.

Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.979 sec., 330ft-2.755, 660ft-4.231/167.05 mph, 1,000ft-5.501.
Allen Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.755, 660ft-4.229/167.30 mph, 1,000ft-5.496.
