Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

LAS VEGAS - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual Big O Tires NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.778/253.04, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.019/246.30, Was #21

6:56 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 21 percent, barometer 27.85 inches, adjusted altitude 3,660 feet, track temperature 76 degrees.

Grisel goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend but still doesn't make the field.


Left Lane: Don St. Arnaud Runs 5.437/266.06, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.601/256.16, Was #17
Right Lane: Cody Perkins Runs 5.393/263.72, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.919/247.38, Was #21

A couple of really good runs here, both right down the groove with their quickest passes of the weekend. St. Arnaud moves up to the eighth spot, Perkins moves all the way to the sixth spot.

Left Lane: Chase Copeland Runs 5.446/266.48, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.534/262.13, Was #18
Right Lane: Johnny Ahten Runs 5.453/240.51, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.667/236.09, Was #20

Two more clean, straight passes and both get in the show. Copeland is in the 11th spot, Ahten the 12th. John Finke is on the bump spot at 5.475.

Left Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 5.471/255.58, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.522/253.80, Was #19
Right Lane: Ray Martin Runs 5.384/265.53, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.616/242.06, Was #20

Martin goes right down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend to get in the field on the sixth spot for now. Bradshaw gets in the show but he is on the bump.

Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.462/245.67, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.503/245.18, Was #20
Right Lane: Todd Odom Runs 5.363/260.81, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.486/253.85, Was #19

Odom makes his quickest pass of the weekend and gets in the show in the fifth spot. Fricke was on a good pass but was losing power near the end of the run. The good news is she is in the field for now.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 5.320/258.76, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.475/260.41, Was #20
Right Lane: William Litton Runs 10.449/83.40, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.467/250.55, Was #17

Litton has traction problems right off the line and will not get in the field.Finke makes his quickest pass of the year and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.375/256.26, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.471/251.53, Was #20
Right Lane: Mark Taliaferro Runs 5.399/263.20, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.442/269.51, Was #13

Meyer goes right down the groove and gets in the show in the seventh spot, bumping out Fricke. Taliaferro improves and moves up to the 11th spot.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.586/250.18, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.466/255.00, Was #18
Right Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.386/263.98, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.436/263.51, Was #12

Shields was mixing up cylinders all the way through the run and does not make the show. Severance went right down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up to the tenth spot.

Left Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.367/268.87, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.440/266.16, Was #14
Right Lane: Megan McKernan Runs 9.443/94.48, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.354/264.80, Was #5

McKernan had problems early and clicked it off. Olivarez improves and gets in the top half of the field.

Right Lane: Sidnei Frigo Runs 8.901/93.19, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.351/263.92, Was #4

Frigo had problems about 300 feet out and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.350/253.85, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.297/262.18, Was #2
Right Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.303/270.81, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.266/272.83, Was #1

whiteley goes right down the groove with another impressive run but doesn't improve. Bateman makes a decent pass but doesn't improve.
