Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #2

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual Big O Tires NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 6.019/246.30, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 5.522/253.80, Now #12; No Prior Run

1:20 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 19 percent, barometer 27.92 inches, adjusted altitude 3,770 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

Grisel had a hole or two out on the left side all the way through the run. Bradshaw made a decent pass and gets in the 12th spot for now.


Left Lane: Todd Odom Runs 5.486/253.85, Now #8; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Kevin Wayman No Time, Now #20; No Prior Run

Wayman loses traction right off the line, starts moving to the right, then hits the wall about 300 feet out. Odom makes a clean pass and gets in the eighth spot for now.

Left Lane: Cody Perkins Runs 5.919/247.38, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Don St. Arnaud Runs 5.601/256.16, Now #15; Best prior run: 13.060/78.77, Was #17

Perkins strikes the tires about 100 feet out, pedals once and gets the slicks to stick. St. Arnaud makes a clean pass and gets in the field in the 15th spot.

Left Lane: Megan McKernan Runs 5.354/264.80, Now #3; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Chase Copeland Runs 6.467/166.81, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.534/262.13, Was #14

McKernan moves around a little early in the run but made an impressive pass to get in the third spot. Copeland had cylinders out at the hit and finally backed off the throttle.

Left Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.266/272.83, Now #1; Best prior run: 21.715/27.40, Was #21
Right Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.471/251.53, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.508/247.25, Was #12

Whiteley makes an impressive pass, right down the groove with the quickest pass of the weekend to take the top spot for now. Meyer makes a good run but was well behind Whiteley all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Johnny Ahten Runs 5.667/236.09, Now #18; Best prior run: 15.688/31.67, Was #21
Right Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.680/238.22, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.503/245.18, Was #13

Ahten put a hole out on the left side at the hit, then lost one on the right about 100 feet out. Fricke's car never really made a good move.

Left Lane: Ray Martin Runs 5.616/242.06, Now #18; Best prior run: 11.483/51.42, Was #21
Right Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.440/266.16, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.503/266.16, Was #12

Olivarez drifts to the right, then steers it back to the groove and improves to the fifth spot. Martin makes a clean pass but still doesn't get in the field.

Left Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.436/263.51, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.510/258.76, Was #14
Right Lane: John Finke Runs 5.572/253.66, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.475/260.41, Was #11

Severance goes right down the groove and moves up to the top half of the field. Finke made a clean pass but slowed from his earlier attempt.

Left Lane: William Litton Runs 5.695/243.90, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.467/250.55, Was #10
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.576/254.62, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.466/255.00, Was #9

A couple of clean, straight passes but neither improve.

Left Lane: Mark Taliaferro Runs 5.596/258.71, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.442/269.51, Was #7
Right Lane: Greg Hunter Runs 5.384/267.80, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.458/262.74, Was #8

Hunter makes a career best pass and gets in the fifth spot for now. Taliaferro had a hole or two out all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Sidnei Frigo Runs 5.364/266.95, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.351/263.92, Was #3
Right Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.499/255.10, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.297/262.18, Was #2

Bateman slows from his earlier attempt but stays in the second spot. Frigo makes another clean pass but doesn't improve.
