Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Dave Rowe

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual Big O Tires NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.282/284.81, Now #1
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 9.164/75.16, Now #2

2:02 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 17 percent, barometer 28.04 inches, adjusted altitude 3,522 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

Johnson hits the throttle, gets about 20 feet out and is out of power, not sure why. Lee makes a decent pass for his first time out this year.

Left Lane: Josh Crawford Runs 4.706/217.04, Now #3
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.108/308.28, Now #1

Crawford had a cylinder or two at the hit, got to half track and looked like he lost another one or two. Head made a clean pass and moved into the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.151/301.33, Now #2
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.466/200.44, Now #4

DeJoria was on a decent pass, then hazed the tires about 600 feet out and backed off the throttle. Pedregon went right down the groove with a decent pass.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.136/305.15, Now #2
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.168/300.66, Now #4

A couple of good looking runs, both right down the groove.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.136/308.99, Now #2
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.191/285.77, Now #6

Wilkerson had a cylinder out early in the run but still made a decent pass. Arend went right down the groove, hitting on all eight cylinders all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.139/298.40, Now #5
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.093/312.71, Now #1

Force goes right down the groove and puts the pink funny car into the top spot for now. Hight makes a clean pass and gets in the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.154/296.37, Now #8
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.084/308.21, Now #1

A couple of good looking runs, Pedregon slowly pulled away from Force all the way through the run and moved into the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.143/291.95, Now #8
Right Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.070/313.73, Now #1

Neff goes right down the groove with an impressive pass and moves into the top spot. Gray makes a clean run but was well behind Neff.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.098/308.78, Now #5
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.093/306.88, Now #4

A good side-by-side, these two were glued together all the way through the run. Beckman matches Courtney Force's ET but had a slower MPH so Force will stay in the third spot and get the bonus point.
