Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #3

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 28th annual Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mike Smith Runs 5.305/148.14, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 5.964/264.60, Now #14; No Prior Run

1:17 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 66 percent, barometer 29.26 inches, adjusted altitude 2,195 feet, track temperature 77 degrees.

Capps launched and the rear tires went up in smoke. He pedaled it, smoked the tires again and had to pedal again. He finally got the car hooked up at about 660 feet and was able to put a time on the scoreboard. Capps is in the 14th spot in the order now, with four non-qualified drivers waiting to make their runs. Smith's run wasn't much better looking and he is sitting in the number 13 spot for now.


Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.997/313.80, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.034/313.00, Was #4
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.063/305.77, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.107/301.60, Was #11

Both drivers had their career best ETs with a pair of good looking runs. Pedregon's 3.997 was good enough for the number two spot in the order. Head moved up four spots and is sitting in the seventh spot in the order for now.

Left Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.028/317.19, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.091/311.99, Was #10
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 7.632/87.12, Now #15; No Prior Run

Wilkerson shook the tires coming off the starting line, pedaled it and got loose at 330 feet before clicking it off. Force had her career best ET and moved up six spots into the fourth spot in the qualifying order for now.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.438/248.07, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 7.239/92.00, Now #16; No Prior Run

Pedregon's car had some tire shake and bounced around on the track, but he finished the run to push himself into the field. Alexander shook the tires and clicked it off. He made the field but is on the bump spot for now.

Left Lane: Todd Lesenko Runs 4.125/299.00, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 9.161/77.88, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.097/307.86, Was #11

Arend's car shook the tires started losing cylinders right away. He clicked it off at 330 feet. Lesenko took his car down the groove to put himself into the field. Alexander got bumped out and Ron Capps is now on the bump spot at 5.964 seconds.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.091/304.12, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.122/298.34, Was #12
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 6.810/101.51, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.074/311.92, Was #9

Hagan's car made a little hop at 330 feet, and he clicked it off. Tasca moved up one spot with a clean run.

Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.039/315.05, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.090/313.37, Was #10
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 5.486/129.93, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.061/321.81, Was #7

Hight's car shook the tires and lost cylinders, so he clicked it off at mid track. Gray had a good run to move up three spots in the order, pushing Hight down one spot in the process.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 7.314/86.95, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.038/315.19, Was #6
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 5.126/146.72, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.032/319.07, Was #5

Force shook the tires and clicked it off early. DeJoria shook the tires on her car and she clicked it off just a little bit later.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.003/316.60, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.989/320.58, Was #1
Right Lane: Mike Neff Runs 5.625/125.30, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.017/318.84, Was #3

Beckman set a track ET record and recorded his career best ET and speed in the second session yesterday. This run was not quite as quick, but it did back up Beckman's ET from yesterday to set a new national ET record of 3.989 seconds for now. Neff shook the rear tires and clicked it off early.
