Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 28th annual Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Tom Fox Jr. Runs 6.186/217.14, Now #2
Right Lane: Bruce Horner Runs 5.631/247.43, Now #1

11:37 a.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 62 percent, barometer 29.52 inches, adjusted altitude 1,861 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

Horner had a clean run. Fox's car appeared sluggish all the way down the track.


Left Lane: Ken Winward Runs 5.632/253.75, Now #3
Right Lane: Frank Schuster Runs 5.460/259.91, Now #1

Two clean runs down the quarter mile. Schuster was quicker all the way.

Left Lane: Mike Burns Runs 5.580/260.81, Now #2
Right Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 5.598/263.00, Now #3

urns shook the rear tires hard for the first 330 feet, but drove through it. Veale had a cleaner looking run but was not as quick.

Left Lane: Karen Stalba Runs 5.593/247.88, Now #4
Right Lane: Mike Kosky Runs 5.483/257.48, Now #2

Stalba and Kosky both had clean runs to make their way into the qualifying order.

Left Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.357/260.31, Now #1
Right Lane: Marty Thacker No Time, Now #10

Thacker's car launched, then lost power right away. He coasted to about 1,000 feet and stopped. Mercier had a good run to move to the top of the order for now.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 5.513/266.74, Now #4
Right Lane: Richard Bourke Runs 7.728/117.53, Now #11

Bourke's car started losing cylinders at 330 feet. Finke had a clean run down the groove.

Left Lane: Dan Page Runs 5.398/263.87, Now #2
Right Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.678/241.54, Now #11

Page took over the second spot in the order with a clean run down the track. Dreher's run looked okay but was not quick enough to put him in the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.366/252.14, Now #2

Meyer took over the number two spot in the order with a good trip down the track. He started to get close to the center line after he got past the 660 foot marker, but did not get close to crossing over.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.396/266.58, Now #3
Right Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 11.387/63.42, Now #16

McPhillips got out to 100 feet when he spun and smoked the rear tires. He clicked it off and coasted the rest of the way down the track. Shields had a clean run and is in the third spot in the qualifying order for now.

Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.281/266.95, Now #1
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.310/268.28, Now #2

Reichert and Demke took over the one and two spots in the qualifying order with a pair of strong runs to end the first qualifying session.
