LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Don St. Arnaud Runs 5.400/264.29, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.687/252.66, Was #9
Right Lane: Cody Perkins Runs 5.760/238.26, Now #10; No Prior Run

5:10 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 15 percent, barometer 27.33 inches, adjusted altitude 4,613 feet, track temperature 103 degrees.

Joey Severance is on the bump spot at 5.628. Perkins gets just one shot at qualifying and its vital to keep his chances alive for the 2012 All Stars.

Not this year! He has better numbers off the line and makes a strong pass, but its just not good enough.

St.Arnaud has all of the numbers from the 330 on to move all the way up to the current #3 spot on the ladder.

Cody Perkins' incremental times: 60ft-0.965 sec., 330ft-2.510, 660ft-3.756/197.31 mph, 1,000ft-4.834.

James Butler is on the bump spot at 5.577.

McKernan continues to struggle and can't only pick up just a little to stay #6. She is way late on the chutes, but gets the fueler stopped without any problems.

Great pass for Severance from just outside the field to into the top half of the field. Nice!

Joey Severance's incremental times: 60ft-0.932 sec., 330ft-2.385, 660ft-3.548/212.46 mph, 1,000ft-4.547.
Megan McKernan's incremental times: 60ft-0.987 sec., 330ft-2.536, 660ft-3.700/215.62 mph, 1,000ft-4.681.

Right Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.557/243.24, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.548/245.94, Was #7

Eugene Tumbarello is on the bump spot at 5.549 and is a No Show for this session.

Bateman's fueler is strong on the bottom end, but starts to drop cylinder on the top end. He slows just a tad to stay #7.

No issues for Austin, but he slows a little too. He will not get into the top half of the field.

Mike Austin's incremental times: 60ft-0.949 sec., 330ft-2.447, 660ft-3.633/209.04 mph, 1,000ft-4.650.
Garrett Bateman's incremental times: 60ft-0.932 sec., 330ft-2.436, 660ft-3.618/208.26 mph, 1,000ft-4.649.

Right Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 6.356/153.74, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.303/270.81, Was #1

They leave close to each other and run just 0.001 difference at sixty feet and are identical at the 330 lights. Whiteley's dragster was slowly drifting towards the center line and he just misses the 660 reflectors, as he dumped.

Demke completes his pass without any drama with a little better times to stay #2.
