By David Gerard

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed this round, amount over/under index this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time, speed & over/under Index, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Brian Fitzpatrick Runs 6.486/215.51/-0.464, Now #11; H/D Index: 6.95, Prior Best: 14.441/54.84/7.491, Was #20
Right Lane: Randy Goff Runs 8.495/156.86/-0.335, Now #17; B/T Index: 8.83, Prior Best: 8.503/156.79/-0.327, Was #16

5:13 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 12 percent, barometer 27.35 inches, adjusted altitude 4,715 feet, track temperature 111 degrees.

Scott Hedlund is number one at -0.578 under his index and no bump spot.

Much better run for Fitzpatrick this time and he goes into the current #11 position.

Golf picks up just a tad, but gets bumped down one by Fitzpatrick.

Left Lane: Ed Sigmon Runs 9.387/107.67/0.207, Now #18; C/SR Index: 9.18, No Prior Run
Right Lane: Dale Giroux Runs 7.447/154.88/-0.183, Now #15; B/AA Index: 7.63, Prior Best: 7.279/168.81/-0.351, Was #15

First pass for Sigmon and he lifts early.

Giroux leaves hard and the Cavalier starts a steady move towards the wall. He runs a long way right up close to it and finally gives up near the 1000 foot lights.

Left Lane: Brandon Huhtala Runs 7.465/183.77/-0.565, Now #2; C/A Index: 8.03, Prior Best: 7.627/159.91/-0.403, Was #14
Right Lane: Clint Sallee Runs 11.342/74.11/4.022, Now #21; B/D Index: 7.32, Prior Best: 11.481/72.30/4.161, Was #21

Both cars leave well, but Sallee is off the throttle before mid-track.

Nice clean pass for Huhtala this time. Right into the new #2 position.

Brandon Huhtala's incremental times: 60ft-1.083 sec., 330ft-3.094, 660ft-4.781/145.63 mph, 1,000ft-6.237.

Left Lane: Alan Ellis Runs 6.628/204.51/-0.552, Now #4; A/AA Index: 7.18, Prior Best: 6.665/203.98/-0.515, Was #5
Right Lane: Joshua Lee Runs 9.121/143.64/-0.659, Now #1; H/EA Index: 9.78, No Prior Run

Lee comes back from engine damage at Phoenix with a stellar pass into the first sixty under range and clearly the new number one qualifier.

Ellis's altered moves around a little down track and he still picks up ET and a spot on the ladder.

Alan Ellis' incremental times: 60ft-1.017 sec., 330ft-2.778, 660ft-4.251/166.19 mph, 1,000ft-5.533.
Joshua Lee's incremental times: 60ft-1.256 sec., 330ft-3.657, 660ft-5.736/117.18 mph, 1,000ft-7.559.

Left Lane: Brian Moscini Runs 7.571/179.76/-0.439, Now #14; C/AA Index: 8.01, Prior Best: 7.565/179.44/-0.445, Was #14
Right Lane: Scott McClay No Time, Now #12; C/ED Index: 7.96, Prior Best: 7.473/177.60/-0.487, Was #12

McClay does his burnout goes up to stage and then has to be pushed back.

Moscini basically repeats on his prior run to stay #14.

Left Lane: Ross Wilson No Time, Now #21; B/SM Index: 8.77, Prior Best: 9.205/115.92/0.435, Was #21
Right Lane: Steve Graham Runs 7.574/180.98/-0.456, Now #10; C/A Index: 8.03, Prior Best: 7.531/180.96/-0.499, Was #10

Wilson's turn to get up to the staging lights and then have to be pushed back.

Graham picks up a little speed, but can't match his prior ET on a full pull.

Left Lane: Ray Vierheller Runs 7.499/175.43/-0.521, Now #7; D/DA Index: 8.02, No Prior Run
Right Lane: Joe Mozeris Runs 7.207/183.00/-0.363, Now #17; B/ED Index: 7.57, Prior Best: 7.222/183.39/-0.348, Was #17

I don't know why Vierheller's pass from round one was DQ'ed, but he makes another stong run into the top eight.

Mozeris stays #17.

Left Lane: Matt Hartford Runs 6.894/195.65/-0.546, Now #5; B/DA Index: 7.44, Prior Best: 7.013/195.56/-0.427, Was #16
Right Lane: John Edwards Runs 7.542/180.65/-0.468, Now #9; C/AA Index: 8.01, Prior Best: 7.499/181.96/-0.511, Was #8

Almost identical sixty foot times and Hartford gets the best of it, pushing Edwards back a spot and nailing the new #5 spot on a clean pass.

Left Lane: Dean Carter Runs 7.058/188.07/-0.542, Now #7; B/ND Index: 7.60, Prior Best: 7.075/186.98/-0.525, Was #7
Right Lane: Adam Bowdish Runs 8.176/164.29/-0.564, Now #4; B/SMA Index: 8.74, Prior Best: 8.203/163.99/-0.537, Was #6

Carter picks up a little ET and MPH to stay #7 and that may have been enough to bump the B/ND record! Bowdish runs close to the same improvement and gets two spots on the ladder for his efforts.

Left Lane: Randy Jones Runs 8.652/153.14/-0.558, Now #5; C/TA Index: 9.21, Prior Best: 8.708/152.26/-0.502, Was #11
Right Lane: Bruce Perkin Runs 8.273/165.46/-0.147, Now #20; E/A Index: 8.42, Prior Best: 17.690/45.73/9.270, Was #24

Two clean passes and both cars make nice improvements from their first pass. Perkins gets a full pass this time and some numbers to tune to tomorrow.

Left Lane: Justin Lamb Runs 8.815/153.82/-0.495, Now #11; F/SMA Index: 9.31, Prior Best: 8.801/153.16/-0.509, Was #11

A little faster for Lamb, but not as quick. He will stay #11 for today.

5:30 p.m. Lee is now number one at -0.659 under his index in the little Honda. No bump spot this weekend.
