Top Alcohol Dragster Time Trial Notes, Session #1
By David Gerard

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 time trials in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Mike Reynolds Runs 6.179/176.05, Now #2
Right Lane: Mike Austin Runs 5.541/261.22, Now #1

2:51 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 88 degrees, relative humidity 10 percent, barometer 27.37 inches, adjusted altitude 4,877 feet, track temperature 120 degrees.

Austin is back in the saddle in a second Y-Not dragster, reportedly testing a new converter combination. Not a bad launch at 0.966 in sixty feet and a clean pass to the finish line. The chutes are late, but he gets it stopped without a problem.

Reynolds leaves in a cloud of clutch dust and then slows on the top end.

Mike Reynolds' incremental times: 60ft-0.972 sec., 330ft-2.540, 660ft-3.798/193.77 mph, 1,000ft-4.977.
Mike Austin's incremental times: 60ft-0.966 sec., 330ft-2.475, 660ft-3.664/208.20 mph, 1,000ft-4.681.

Left Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.723/210.31, Now #3
Right Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.462/220.44, Now #1

The Boss is up next and the dragster leaves hard and runs well to about the 1000 foot mark, where there is a small POP from the engine and the chutes are right out.

Bateman's fueler left well and started to drop cylinders going down the track. The car stops on the track after the finish line and is locked up. This may take a few minutes.

Garrett Bateman's incremental times: 60ft-0.951 sec., 330ft-2.486, 660ft-3.689/206.73 mph, 1,000ft-4.729.
Jim Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.928 sec., 330ft-2.394, 660ft-3.533/217.25 mph, 1,000ft-4.513.

Left Lane: Eugene Tumbarello Runs 5.750/204.94, Now #5
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.682/195.99, Now #3

3:03 p.m. ...and we are back to running.

Great leave for Demke and then he slows down track.

No joy for Tumbarello either.

Right Lane: Greg Hunter Runs 8.701/79.49, Now #7

Last car of the TnT session.

Hunter car is light on clutch off the line and then goes BANG right before the 330 lights and slows. The car stops on the track after the finish line. OUCH!

3:10 p.m.
