CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at Firebird International Raceway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, amount over/under index, and position in order following run, class and class index:

Left Lane: Dean Carter Runs 7.009/187.68/-0.501, Now #2 B/ND Index: 7.51
Right Lane: Matt Hartford Runs 6.783/200.32/-0.607, Now #1 B/DA Index: 7.39

12:20 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 21 percent, barometer 28.35 inches, adjusted altitude 2,706 feet, track temperature 101 degrees.

Nostalgia vs. Modern. 100ci difference too.

Great pass for Hartford into the sixty under range to set the mark for the rest of the field.

Carter has a strong pass against the tough B/ND index.

Dean Carter's incremental times: 60ft-1.036 sec., 330ft-2.871, 660ft-4.442/155.83 mph, 1,000ft-5.817.
Matt Hartford's incremental times: 60ft-1.068 sec., 330ft-2.850, 660ft-4.353/163.08 mph, 1,000ft-5.660.

Left Lane: Randy Goff Runs 8.356/158.74/-0.344, Now #4 B/T Index: 8.70
Right Lane: Brian Moscini Runs 7.487/182.18/-0.423, Now #3 C/AA Index: 7.91

Two clean passes with Moscini getting the best of it.

Left Lane: Scott McClay Runs 7.345/180.24/-0.515, Now #3 C/ED Index: 7.86
Right Lane: Deric Kramer Runs 6.866/202.30/-0.524, Now #2 B/DA Index: 7.39

Almost 200ci difference this time!

Clean leaves and strong passes a pair.

Scott McClay's incremental times: 60ft-1.055 sec., 330ft-2.983, 660ft-4.646/146.83 mph, 1,000ft-6.098.
Deric Kramer's incremental times: 60ft-1.037 sec., 330ft-2.874, 660ft-4.421/159.08 mph, 1,000ft-5.747.

Left Lane: Tom Mettler Runs 9.965/132.27/1.745, Now #8 PSTA Index: 8.22
Right Lane: Jeff Lane Runs 8.116/147.96/-0.504, Now #4 B/SMA Index: 8.62

Only 2ci difference, but 0.4 second difference in their Index.

Mettle has problems before the 330 lights and coasts on down. Clean pass for Lane.

Jeff Lane's incremental times: 60ft-1.126 sec., 330ft-3.292, 660ft-5.115/135.09 mph, 1,000ft-6.691.

Left Lane: Brian Fitzpatrick Runs 6.385/216.83/-0.535, Now #2 H/D Index: 6.92
Right Lane: Ross Wilson Runs 12.228/72.72/3.588, Now #10 B/SM Index: 8.64

Just a little shake at the 1-2 shift for Fitzpatrick and a great pass into the new #2 spot.

Wilson struggles after the launch and slows.

Brian Fitzpatrick's incremental times: 60ft-1.056 sec., 330ft-2.770, 660ft-4.151/178.38 mph, 1,000ft-5.352.

Left Lane: Mike DePalma Runs 9.089/138.23/-0.521, Now #4 I/SM Index: 9.61
Right Lane: Joe Mozeris Runs 7.604/145.33/0.124, Now #10 B/ED Index: 7.48

DePalma's car is loose off the line and steps out of the groove and towards the wall. He gathers it back up to finish the run.

Mozeris' dragster is a little lazy off the line and slows from yesterday's best.

Left Lane: Bill Kent Runs 6.935/202.58/-0.305, Now #11 B/D Index: 7.24
Right Lane: Alan Ellis Runs 6.681/206.39/-0.429, Now #8 A/AA Index: 7.11

Ellis has his hands full at the shift, as the back end tries to step out. He pumps it and runs on down.

Left Lane: Randy Jones Runs 8.491/156.55/-0.579, Now #2 C/TA Index: 9.07
Right Lane: Jim Cowan Runs 10.531/73.50/1.751, Now #15 D/EA Index: 8.78

Cowan finds some good power until half track, where he slows.

Great pass for Jones and he moves all the way to the new #2 spot.

Randy Jones' incremental times: 60ft-1.154 sec., 330ft-3.434, 660ft-5.372/126.54 mph, 1,000ft-7.053.
Jim Cowan's incremental times: 60ft-1.149 sec., 330ft-3.352, 660ft-5.376/107.46 mph, 1,000ft-7.779.

Left Lane: Adam Bowdish Runs 8.057/166.76/-0.563, Now #3 B/SMA Index: 8.62
Right Lane: Doug Lambeck Runs 8.461/159.76/-0.509, Now #8 D/SMA Index: 8.97

Big wheels up leave for Bowdish and a strong pass to the current #3 position.

Lambeck gets into the low fifty under range and the top eight.

Adam Bowdish's incremental times: 60ft-1.090 sec., 330ft-3.260, 660ft-5.105/132.88 mph, 1,000ft-6.701.
Doug Lambeck's incremental times: 60ft-1.194 sec., 330ft-3.466, 660ft-5.386/127.97 mph, 1,000ft-7.037.

Left Lane: Steve Graham Runs 7.418/184.45/-0.512, Now #9 C/A Index: 7.93
Right Lane: Phil Unruh Runs 8.615/155.52/-0.555, Now #4 F/SMA Index: 9.17

Fifty under is getting common.

Two clean passes, both is the top half of the field.

Left Lane: John Edwards Runs 7.503/184.22/-0.407, Now #15 C/AA Index: 7.91
Right Lane: Dan Fletcher Runs 8.485/115.55/0.175, Now #19 B/EA Index: 8.31

Fletcher's Cobalt is a little loose off the line and he clicks it way early.

Left Lane: Ray Vierheller Runs 7.393/176.70/-0.527, Now #7 D/DA Index: 7.92
Right Lane: Justin Lamb Runs 8.623/156.10/-0.547, Now #5 F/SMA Index: 9.17

Lamb leaves with the front wheels way up in the air and makes a clean pass into the final #5 spot.

Vierheller runs well to and into the top eight to end the session.

Ray Vierheller's incremental times: 60ft-1.028 sec., 330ft-2.969, 660ft-4.649/145.31 mph, 1,000ft-6.123.
Justin Lamb's incremental times: 60ft-1.215 sec., 330ft-3.518, 660ft-5.480/124.58 mph, 1,000ft-7.177.

12:38 p.m. Matt Hartford stays number one at -0.607 under the index. Field not filled, no bump spot.
