CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from round 1 time trials in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at Firebird International Raceway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 6.064/187.55, Now #1
Right Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 10.656/79.35, Now #2

2:24 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 9 percent, barometer 28.40 inches, adjusted altitude 3,083 feet, track temperature 98 degrees.

First test session of two today.

Gordon is strong off the line and spins the slicks before the 330 lights.

Westerfield gets further down the track before lifting.

Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.801/255.00, Now #1

Lots of shake for The Woz and he clicks it off.

Payne may have pumped the throttle around the 100 feet mark, as the tires went a little out of round.

Right Lane: Brian Smith Runs 9.563/89.66, Now #3

No joy for Smith as the car is in trouble right at the hit.

Left Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.718/254.47, Now #2
Right Lane: John Lombardo Jr. Runs 5.699/222.99, Now #1

Two good passes and Lombardo shut off early and coasts to "just" 223 MPH.

2:37 p.m. Annie Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-1.015 sec., 330ft-2.575, 660ft-3.796/203.34 mph, 1,000ft-4.834.
John Lombardo Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.947 sec., 330ft-2.505, 660ft-3.718/204.54 mph, 1,000ft-4.748.
