Competition Eliminator Round 1 Eliminations

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at Firebird International Raceway:

12:15 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 12 percent, barometer 28.39 inches, adjusted altitude 2,797 feet, track temperature 98 degrees.
Mettler engine isn't happy, with smoke out from underneath the truck. He is late to boot and the engine studders about 100 feet out and he coasts on through.

No problems this time for Wilson, as he finally gets a clean pass and just nibbles at the CIC for round two.

They leave just 0.001 apart, but Cowan slows again to give the easy win to Lane.

The cars are shut off after the burn outs, as Cowan's car doesn't clear the top end and needs help to get it off the track.
Moscini has problems getting the Grand Am restarted and is pushed away.

Jones gets a single and will race Wilson in round two.

McClay has a good Comp. light, but Hartford can't wait and gives him the red light win. McClay faces Bowdish later today.

Kent is dead late and that won't work against Carter.
He takes it easy to ensure no CIC and will race Lane in round two.

Vierheller nails the tree with a 0.003 light and that pushes DePalma way into the CIC range and gets him a permanent adjustment on MOnday. Ouch!

Ellis' tires go square at the green and he lifts, after a nice 0.017 light. The car makes it just past the finish line and stops on the track.

Fletcher dumps and will race Lambeck in the next round.

Looks like Neff's engine problems were terminal, as Lamb gets the single to round two. He faces De Palma.
