Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #3
By David Gerard

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 47th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 3.956/178.38, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Dom Lagana No Time, Now #14; No Prior Run

12:35 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 50 percent, barometer 28.70 inches, adjusted altitude 2,398 feet, track temperature 72 degrees.

Lagana is away first and is on a good pass until near the top end, where the engine goes bang and dumps stuff on the track.

Ashley's dragster moves towards the center line at the green and he pulls it back. This happens a couple of more times before he almost crosses the center line right after the lights. The MPH is likely bogus, but the ET is correct.

Mike Ashley's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.234, 660ft-3.164/269.35 mph.
Dom Lagana's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.192, 660ft-3.131/266.90 mph.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 4.236/221.45, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 3.892/307.44, Now #10; No Prior Run

12:48 p.m. ...and we are back.

Buff makes a strong pass to set a new season best ET and MPH and takes over the current #10 spot on the ladder.

McMillen's engine isn't happy down track and he slows from his prior best.

Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.897 sec., 330ft-2.284, 660ft-3.258/257.43 mph.
Troy Buff's incremental times: 60ft-0.876 sec., 330ft-2.197, 660ft-3.109/275.06 mph.

Left Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 4.453/212.56, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.848/314.61, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.854/315.49, Was #8

Terry McMillen is on the bump spot at 4.236.

Chrisman slows again down track and won't make the field.

Great pass for Grubnic with a 0.856 sixty foot time to start the run and another mid-three eighty at the end. That moves him up to the #6 spot for now.

Steven Chrisman's incremental times: 60ft-0.928 sec., 330ft-2.365, 660ft-3.420/235.06 mph.
David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.856 sec., 330ft-2.189, 660ft-3.084/280.89 mph.

Left Lane: Mike Salinas Runs 4.142/296.57, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Damien Harris Runs 4.006/287.05, Now #16; No Prior Run

Salinas has to pump the throttle just before the 330 lights to just bump into the field.

Harris runs his best of his weekend to bump in too.

Mike Salinas' incremental times: 60ft-0.884 sec., 330ft-2.338, 660ft-3.328/260.51 mph.
Damien Harris' incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.241, 660ft-3.186/266.00 mph.

Left Lane: Chris Karamesines Runs 7.940/72.77, Now #20; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.848/319.37, Now #6; No Prior Run

Brown only has two more chances to keep his championship hopes alive.

The Matco Tools dragster leaves hard with a 0.857 sixty foot time and keep the tires stuck through the mid-range and flies to the finish line and jumps up into the top half of the field in the current #6 spot. There had to be a big sigh of relief from the whole crew.

Karamesines car strikes the tires before the 330 and he is done.

Chris Karamesines' incremental times: 60ft-0.891 sec., 330ft-2.635, 660ft-5.031/087.41 mph.
Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.184, 660ft-3.092/280.43 mph.

Left Lane: Todd Paton Runs 8.094/88.54, Now #22; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Pat Dakin Runs 4.300/214.08, Now #19; No Prior Run

Paton strikes the tires right off the line. Dakin car is all over the track with cylinders out, driving the car several times towards the center line. He just misses the top end reflectors and will keep his ET.

Pat Dakin's incremental times: 60ft-0.879 sec., 330ft-2.252, 660ft-3.275/230.45 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.900/311.34, Now #14; Best prior run: 3.907/310.91, Was #13
Right Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 3.888/311.70, Now #11; No Prior Run

Damien Harris is on the bump spot at 4.006.

A nice side by side pair of passes, with Zizzo getting the better results.

Millican picks up just 0.007 to get pushed down to fourteen by a quicker Zizzo. That's his best run of the weekend and he takes over the current #11 spot on the ladder.

Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.868 sec., 330ft-2.203, 660ft-3.121/275.17 mph.
T.J. Zizzo's incremental times: 60ft-0.868 sec., 330ft-2.185, 660ft-3.109/272.72 mph.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.926/311.99, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.898/312.93, Was #13
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 9.012/78.66, Now #24; No Prior Run

Langdon fires and falls back and McClenathan's car made a big move towards the wall right at the finish line.

Langdon doesn't make the field and Cory Mac stays #13.

Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.217, 660ft-3.147/272.45 mph.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.905/306.12, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.838/317.87, Was #4
Right Lane: Thomas Nataas Runs 4.024/261.22, Now #18; No Prior Run

Nataas runs a little slower than earlier and won't nake the field.

Lucas runs another strong pass to stay in the top four.

Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.208, 660ft-3.125/275.00 mph.
Thomas Nataas' incremental times: 60ft-0.866 sec., 330ft-2.202, 660ft-3.162/259.51 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 10.919/78.88, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.851/319.22, Was #8
Right Lane: Keith Murt Runs 4.066/290.38, Now #15; Best prior run: 3.914/312.64, Was #15

Kalitta strikes the tires at the green and can't improve.

Murt has a great looking pass, but can't move up the ladder.

Keith Murt's incremental times: 60ft-0.909 sec., 330ft-2.270, 660ft-3.236/259.41 mph.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.846/316.08, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.853/318.39, Was #9
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.801/322.19, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.827/321.19, Was #1

Two great passes. They leave almost together and Schumacher pulls steadily ahead to move the top spot even further away from the rest of the field.

Schumacher was already #1 and Bernstein moves up into the top half of the field in the new number six spot.

Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.181, 660ft-3.087/279.15 mph.
Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.164, 660ft-3.052/285.05 mph.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.791/321.12, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.843/320.51, Was #5
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.853/317.64, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.869/317.64, Was #10

Say Hello to the new low qualifier! Dixon leaves first and hard with a 0.846 RT and is running 3.042 at the 660 lights. he powers on down to our first "seventy" of the weekend.

Vandergriff picks up a little ET to stay #10.

Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.147, 660ft-3.041/284.21 mph.
Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.868 sec., 330ft-2.182, 660ft-3.088/277.94 mph.

Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.804/325.06, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.837/319.14, Was #4

Massey runs a strong three eighty and stays #4 with no bonus points. Ouch!

Worsham shows the Al-Anabi dominance this weekend and betters his parter's times down the track to capture the top spot for the session.

Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.132, 660ft-3.021/283.79 mph.
Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.171, 660ft-3.058/285.29 mph.
