POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 47th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.084/186.48, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.268/185.89, Was #24
Right Lane: Larry Cook Runs 7.293/180.72, Now #25; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 28.75 inches, adjusted altitude 2,654 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

12:22 p.m. Chip Ellis is on the bump spot at 6.954.

Harris stepped up a bunch from yesterday, is still short of the field. Cook got down the track today, now he needs to find some power.


Left Lane: James Surber Runs 7.186/185.97, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.262/184.80, Was #24
Right Lane: Wesley Wells Runs 7.163/187.94, Now #24; Best prior run: 7.505/157.14, Was #26

Both improved, both came up short.

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 6.992/190.73, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.154/186.23, Was #23
Right Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.227/188.31, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.135/188.52, Was #22

Camarena lost a tenth from yesterday. Guidera got into the sixes, but not far enough to make the field.

Left Lane: Fredrik Fredlund Runs 7.098/189.52, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.038/188.46, Was #20
Right Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 7.151/185.74, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.070/187.76, Was #21

No improvemnt for either of these two.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer No Time, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.036/189.02, Was #19
Right Lane: Bailey Whitaker Runs 6.998/191.29, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.983/192.55, Was #17

Stoffer's bike fired briefly, then went quiet and they pushed it away - reportedly a fuel pump problem. Whitaker failed to improve.

Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 10.144/83.66, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.961/194.13, Was #15

Phillips bogged on the launch, may have been in the wrong gear, and he sat up almost immediately.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.010/189.23, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.954/189.42, Was #12
Right Lane: Justin Finley Runs 7.041/190.38, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.960/194.97, Was #14

Ellis is the first so far this round already in the provisional field. He made a good-looking run, slowed into the sevens today.

Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.905/192.33, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.953/190.62, Was #11
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.964/192.49, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.955/190.70, Was #13

Savoie im[proved nicely, moved up the ladder. Smith failed to improve, will have to start over tomorrow.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.930/192.25, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.911/191.43, Was #9
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.930/191.21, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.936/191.08, Was #11

Tonglet improved, Gann did not.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.021/194.44, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.905/192.22, Was #8
Right Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 6.987/191.84, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.922/193.07, Was #10

Two more no-improvement runs.

Left Lane: Michael Ray No Time, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.900/192.63, Was #6
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.871/194.91, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.885/175.48, Was #4

Ray broke on the launch. Arana improved slightly, stayed fourth.

Left Lane: Matt Smith No Time, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.896/193.46, Was #5
Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 7.422/134.16, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.832/194.04, Was #2

Smith broke on the launch. Jr. slowed on the top end.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.854/198.12, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.853/195.99, Was #3
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.847/196.44, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.820/197.54, Was #1

Last pair...Krawiec runs a thousandth slower than yesterday at a huge speed, now top speed of the meet and a track record. Hines fails to improve.
