POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 47th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Larry Cook No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Fredrik Fredlund Runs 7.038/188.46, Now #1

11:49 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 21 percent, barometer 29.03 inches, adjusted altitude 2,322 feet, track temperature 84 degrees.

Cook's engine died as he was preparing to stage and it refused to restart. Nice opening shot by Fredlund.


Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.135/188.52, Now #2
Right Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.268/185.89, Now #3

Nothing pobviously wrong with either run, but those times are unlikely to make the cut.

Left Lane: Wesley Wells Runs 7.505/157.14, Now #5
Right Lane: James Surber Runs 7.262/184.80, Now #3



Left Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 7.070/187.76, Now #2
Right Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.154/186.23, Now #4



Left Lane: Bailey Whitaker Runs 6.983/192.55, Now #2
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.900/192.63, Now #1

Nice runs in both lanes to give us the first two sixes of the round. Career-best speed for both riders and a career-best ET for Ray.

Left Lane: Justin Finley Runs 6.960/194.97, Now #3
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.911/191.43, Now #2

More sixes and a career-best speed for Finley.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 6.975/191.48, Now #5
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.905/192.22, Now #2

More sixes - the high sixes may not make the provisional field at this rate.

Left Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.955/190.70, Now #5
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 6.954/189.42, Now #4

Nice runs in both lanes and the top eight are already in the sixes.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 6.922/193.07, Now #4
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 6.961/194.13, Now #8

Since the quailfying order for this session is built with the higher points riders later in the order, things shpould keep picking up.

Two more nice runs and Katie Sullivan is on the bump spot at 7.070.


Left Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.936/191.08, Now #5
Right Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.953/190.62, Now #6

Two more good runs and there is a cluster around 6.95. Now Bailey Whitaker is on the bump spot at 6.983.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.885/175.48, Now #1
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.036/189.02, Now #14

There are six bikes left in line, and Arana goes to the top of the list with a surprisingly slow speed. Stoffer was off the pace early in the run and misses the provisional field by several positions.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.820/197.54, Now #1
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.896/193.46, Now #3

Mike Berry is on the bump spot at 6.975.

Hines goes to the top of the list with a huge speed. Now Justin Finley is on the bump spot at 6.960.


Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.832/194.04, Now #2
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.853/195.99, Now #3

Last two. Jr. comes up a couple thousandths short of the top spot and Krawiec is a couple hundredths back. That puts Chip Ellis on the provisional bump spot at 6.954.
