A FUEL Qualifying Notes, Session #1

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in A FUEL at the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series, 20th annual California Hot Rod Reunion, presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Ryan Davenport Runs 6.342/215.10, Now #1
Right Lane: Jeremy Sullivan No Time, Now #2

3:52 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 38 percent, barometer 28.95 inches, adjusted altitude 2,988 feet, track temperature 112 degrees.

Sullivan has issues after the burnout and is pushed away.

Great 0.077 sixty foot time for the blown car and he gets to the finish line without drama. Nice looking pass.

Ryan Davenport's incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.649, 660ft-4.061/172.32 mph, 1,000ft-5.296.

Left Lane: John Evans No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Bobby Evans Runs 7.149/215.24, Now #3

Two Evans: one on Nitro and one on alcohol!

Bobby Evans is away first and has some shake down low. He picks it back up and gets to the finish line with a so-so ET.

John Evans is very late off the line and has reasonable incrementals down low. It sounded like he pumped it at least once and the car pulled over towards the center line and clipped the 1000 foot reflector. He won't get a time.

Left Lane: John Harless Runs 6.481/206.51, Now #2
Right Lane: Bill Wayne Runs 6.602/211.79, Now #3

4:04 p.m. Clean up done and time to race!

They leave close together and run within 0.001 at sixty feet. Harless starts a steady increase in his lead going down the track and slides into the #2 spot with a relatively slow MPH.

Clean pass for Wayne and he is currently #3.

John Harless' incremental times: 60ft-1.061 sec., 330ft-2.767, 660ft-4.199/173.27 mph, 1,000ft-5.416.
Bill Wayne's incremental times: 60ft-1.060 sec., 330ft-2.842, 660ft-4.287/169.36 mph, 1,000ft-5.541.

Left Lane: Dennis Allen Runs 7.363/205.85, Now #7
Right Lane: Kin Bates Runs 6.283/222.47, Now #1

Bates is away by a huge margin and runs strong to the finish line. The car moves around at mid-track and Bates gets the best of it. Big ET and MH!

Allen is dead late off the line and very slow getting to the finish line.

Dennis Allen's incremental times: 60ft-1.390 sec., 330ft-3.434, 660ft-4.989/162.29 mph, 1,000ft-6.277.
Kin Bates' incremental times: 60ft-1.074 sec., 330ft-2.750, 660ft-4.119/181.06 mph, 1,000ft-5.286.

Left Lane: Shawn Corbari No Time, Now #11
Right Lane: Jerry Kumre Jr Runs 6.744/198.73, Now #5

4:10 p.m. There is some oil at the turnout, but its not clear who's it is.

Lot of high RPM's for Kumre in the burnout and then Corbari crew shuts him off at the line.

Kumre's dragster leaves hard, but doesn't have the beans on the top end.

Jerry Kumre Jr's incremental times: 60ft-1.070 sec., 330ft-2.826, 660ft-4.313/164.47 mph, 1,000ft-5.619.

Left Lane: Darrell Waters Runs 6.408/211.86, Now #3

Nice 1.043 sixty foot time and a clean and straight and true pass for Waters moves his blown car well into the field in the final #3 spot for today.

4:21 p.m. Ken Bates is #1 at 6.283 and Bobby Evans is on the bump spot at 7.149.
