Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

NOBLE, Okla. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, South Central Division, event at Thunder Valley Raceway Park listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.424/265.95, Now #1; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Aaron Tatum Runs 7.646/113.12, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.992/119.18, Was #9

1:27 p.m. Lee Callaway is on the bump spot at 6.735. Defending event champion Demke did not make a run yesterday.
These two had mixed results, Demke right down the groove and into the #1 spot, Tatum with dead cylinders almost from the start, the engine blubbering. Tatum had a chute out at half track.

Now Chase Copeland is on the bump spot at 5.760.

Left Lane: Chase Copeland Runs 5.431/269.54, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.760/245.96, Was #8
Right Lane: Lee Callaway Runs 5.683/253.87, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.735/132.95, Was #9

Callaway just got bumped from the field and Copeland just got pushed down to the bump spot.
Both drivers were doing a lot of driving, but Copeland did the best job, getting through early tire shake, while Callaway's car was wagging its tail most of the way down the strip. Copeland goes all the way to #2, but Callaway stays ninth, even after improving more than a second from yesterday.

James Thompson is now on the bump spot at 5.662. He won't be bumped, but he will have to run the #1 qualifier in round one if he does not improve.

Left Lane: Forrest Fair Runs 5.684/220.48, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.661/250.76, Was #7
Right Lane: James Thompson Runs 15.092/66.40, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.662/249.51, Was #8

Thompson's car leaped up in the air at the launch, then smoked the tires. Fair was on a good run for about 800 feet, then the car got way to the left and he fought to keep it off the wall. When he lifted, the car darted to the right and he almost took out the finish line reflector. But he missed the wall and the reflector, no harm, no foul.

Left Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 5.519/255.02, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.569/256.19, Was #6
Right Lane: Richard Putz Runs 5.442/260.71, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.476/260.64, Was #4

Two clean, full passes, both drivers improving a few hundredths. Pierce moved up one spot and will now face Putz in round one.

Left Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.371/267.14, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.561/256.92, Was #6
Right Lane: Michael Manners Runs 5.438/267.69, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.440/267.93, Was #3

Two nice runs, Meyer moving to the head of the class with a career-best speed.

Randy Meyer's incremental times: 60ft-0.935 sec., 330ft-2.443, 660ft-3.576/220.85 mph, 1,000ft-4.536.
Michael Manners' incremental times: 60ft-0.950 sec., 330ft-2.475, 660ft-3.643/217.44 mph, 1,000ft-4.606.
