NOBLE, Okla. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, South Central Division, event at Thunder Valley Raceway Park listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run: Left Lane: Lee Callaway Runs 6.735/132.95, Now #2 Right Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 5.569/256.19, Now #1 5:37 p.m. Surprisingly, this is Pierce's first race of the season. Well, it looks like he hasn't forgotten how to do
it, making a nice opening pass. Callaway was right alongside until half track, then his car nosed over and he slowed. Left Lane: Aaron Tatum Runs 6.992/119.18, Now #4 Right Lane: Chase Copeland Runs 5.760/245.96, Now #2 This is only Tatum's third race of the year and he did not fare as well as Pierce. He left hard, but dropped a cylinder early in the run and dropped another before half track, then shut it off and put the chutes out. Copeland's car was also off the quick pace before half track, but he made it to the stripe under power. Left Lane: Michael Manners Runs 5.440/267.93, Now #1 Right Lane: Forrest Fair Runs 5.661/250.76, Now #3 Manners dropped a cylinder late in the run, but he's still the quickest of the day so far. Fair shook the tires and moved around a bit in the middle of the run. Left Lane: James Thompson Runs 5.662/249.51, Now #4 Chris Demke was supposed to be in the right lane for this pair, but was unable to make the run. There is a second session scheduled for mid-day Saturday, but there is also an increasing likelihood of weather as the weekend progresses. Thompson
had a dropped cylinder, on the right side, before half track, and another, on the left side, at 1,000 feet. Left Lane: Richard Putz Runs 5.476/260.64, Now #2 Right Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.561/256.92, Now #3 Last pair, both capable of taking over the top spot. Both made good runs, neither could knock Manners from the top of the list. We now have a bump spot and it's Lee Callaway, at 6.735, with Aaron Tatum on the outside. That's it for today, things
get under way at 9 a.m. and everybody is scheduled for at least one round of eliminations tomorrow because of the less-than-optimum
weather forecasts for the rest of the weekend.
