Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Final Session

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.023/186.15, Now #9; Best prior run: 19.717/28.51, Was #24
Right Lane: Odolph Daniels Runs 8.714/106.35, Now #23; Best prior run: 10.603/95.58, Was #22

3:02 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 58 percent, barometer 28.98 inches, adjusted altitude 2,563 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

Berry makes a full pass this time and gets in the show in the ninth spot for now. Daniels had problems late in the run and backed off the throttle.


Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 7.035/189.84, Now #10; Best prior run: 17.981/36.46, Was #24
Right Lane: Wesley Wells No Time, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.539/176.70, Was #22

Wells doesn't make the call to the line. Underdahl makes a full pass and gets in the show in the tenth spot for now.

Left Lane: Bailey Whitaker Runs 7.122/183.49, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.332/154.79, Was #21
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.978/189.90, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.374/191.84, Was #22

Hines makes a good run and gets in the show in the seventh spot, bumping out LE Tonglet. Whitaker improves but not enough to get in the show.

Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.085/185.95, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.156/183.10, Was #21
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.956/190.94, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.259/147.83, Was #22

Arana makes a good run and gets in the show in the seventh spot. DeSantis just misses the show.

Left Lane: Dawn Minturn Runs 7.159/186.23, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.124/183.62, Was #22
Right Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.077/187.81, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.111/186.41, Was #19

Minturn spun the tire off the line and doesn't make the show. Tonglet makes a decent pass and gets in the show on the bump.

Left Lane: Justin Finley No Time, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.120/183.10, Was #20
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 7.121/188.17, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.098/189.15, Was #19

Finley scraped the wall in the first round and doesn't make the call to the line. Tonglet slows from his earlier attempt and the reigning champ doesn't make the show.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.148/189.95, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.063/190.03, Was #15
Right Lane: Junior Pippin Runs 7.103/187.16, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.081/184.27, Was #17

Pippin is the last rider that is not already qualified. He slows from his earlier attempt and does not get into the field. Johnson slows but is already safely in the field.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.044/187.89, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.042/188.78, Was #13
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 6.999/192.08, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.050/190.78, Was #14

Phillips makes an impressive run for the conditions and moves up a few notches in the order. Gann almost equals his first attempt.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.002/190.03, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.934/191.19, Was #5
Right Lane: David Hope Runs 6.965/190.19, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.986/189.15, Was #10

Krawiec drifts out of the groove, moves toward the centerline, but never backs off the throttle. Hope makes a good run and moves up to the eighth spot.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.935/193.16, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.922/193.85, Was #4
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 7.105/181.79, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.983/189.18, Was #10

Stoffer makes an impressive run, the quickest of the round so far, and moves into the fourth spot. Smith slows from her earlier attempts and stays in the tenth spot.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.952/189.36, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.917/191.27, Was #3
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 6.960/191.35, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.944/191.70, Was #6

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove.

Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.974/190.75, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.917/192.36, Was #2
Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.951/188.86, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.887/191.59, Was #1

Arana jr. slows from his earlier attempt but stays number one. He is the 33rd rider to qualify number one at a national event in this class.
