Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 11th annual Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals presented by Tri-Cities Area Ford Dealers listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.268/287.60, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.893/117.25, Was #16

Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 61 percent, barometer 28.40 inches, adjusted altitude 3,719 feet, track temperature 91 degrees.

Pedregon was straight down the groove with a good looking pass...there was a puff of engine smoke right in the lights. Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.911 sec., 330ft-2.376, 660ft-3.421/245.99 mph.


Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.107/308.21, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.507/130.78, Was #15

Tasca launched hard and was straight down the groove with a great looking pass. Tasca goes to the number one spot. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.904 sec., 330ft-2.337, 660ft-3.312/263.46 mph.

Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 5.069/149.25, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.144/148.61, Was #14
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.126/307.30, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.840/117.59, Was #16

Troxel starts to get out of the groove around 400 feet and clicks it off...Force with a great pass, but got loose on the top end, but still goes to the number two spot. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.894 sec., 330ft-2.332, 660ft-3.328/260.26 mph.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.183/292.27, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.405/251.11, Was #13
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.224/261.37, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.204/142.84, Was #16

Wilkerson was straight down the groove with a real nice pass to go to the number seven spot. Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.348, 660ft-3.348/253.04 mph. Gray was right there with him until right in the lights when the car went silent...Johnny Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.907 sec., 330ft-2.343, 660ft-3.353/251.16 mph.

Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 6.429/102.48, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.330/226.66, Was #14
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.371/227.57, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.684/187.65, Was #15

Neff starts to lose traction early and clicks it off. Head started to lose traction and pedaled it one time, but was lost traction again and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 4.955/162.63, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.324/285.53, Was #13
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.562/204.14, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.297/287.23, Was #12

Wilkerson started to get loose and clicked it off. Lee started to lose traction a little farther down and he clicked it off. No help here for Lee and he will stay on the bubble.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.119/302.28, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.226/298.87, Was #10
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.116/307.51, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.191/294.69, Was #8

This was a great side-by-side drag race...Pedregon launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number two spot. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.911 sec., 330ft-2.333, 660ft-3.316/262.54 mph. Arend was right there with him...Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.897 sec., 330ft-2.333, 660ft-3.315/261.62 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.110/301.33, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.174/304.53, Was #6
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.179/300.86, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.182/292.39, Was #8

Capps with another good looking pass and moves up the ladder one spot. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.908 sec., 330ft-2.352, 660ft-3.362/254.42 mph. Hight with a great pass as he is straight down the groove to the number two spot. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.900 sec., 330ft-2.336, 660ft-3.314/265.33 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.112/303.50, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.165/298.87, Was #6
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.125/305.42, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.179/297.02, Was #8

A couple really good pass to wrap up this session. Beckman moves into the top half of the show. Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.338, 660ft-3.323/261.62 mph. Hagan keep the Goodyears hooked up all the way do the 1000 feet to go to the number three spot. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.898 sec., 330ft-2.322, 660ft-3.307/260.86 mph.
