Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #3

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 42nd annual NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 5.841/115.65, Now #13; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 32 percent, barometer 29.99 inches, adjusted altitude 1,783 feet, track temperature 106 degrees.

Vandergriff started to smoke the tires early and then pedaled it a couple times and never got it to hook up.


Left Lane: Pat Dakin No Time, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 5.120/153.46, Now #13; No Prior Run

Novelli got to about 330 feet before he started to smoke the tires. Dakin started to smoke the tires around 330 feet and he tried to drive through it and then the engine started to go away with a lot of engine smoke. The word from the top end is oil, so this run will not count and he will be docked five points and fined $1000.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.893/315.19, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.904/314.09, Was #11
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.879/318.02, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.866/314.68, Was #8

This was a good side-by-side drag race...Brown with another good pass, but will not improve on yesterday's time and will stay in the number eight spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.188, 660ft-3.114/274.61 mph. Kalitta with his quickest pass of the weekend, but will stay in the number 11 spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.186, 660ft-3.121/272.06 mph.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.895/313.22, Now #12; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Dom Lagana Runs 8.917/83.79, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.920/309.27, Was #12

Lagana is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle..Grubnic was straight down the groove to get into the show. David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.198, 660ft-3.121/274.22 mph.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.904/315.56, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Doug Foley Runs 5.534/115.80, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.889/310.55, Was #10

Foley started to haze the tires around 200 feet and he lifted and coasted on through the 1000 feet. McMillen with his quickest pass of the weekend to get in the show. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.190, 660ft-3.133/272.01 mph.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.882/315.71, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.880/315.86, Was #9
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.847/313.95, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.859/310.48, Was #6

This was a good side-by-side drag race...Langdon launched hard and keep it hooked up with his quickest pass of the weekend. He will stay in the number six spot. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.154, 660ft-3.074/274.27 mph. Another good pass for Lucas, just a tick off his time from yesterday. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.863 sec., 330ft-2.187, 660ft-3.112/273.66 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.628/161.15, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.863/314.24, Was #7
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.856/318.32, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.831/318.77, Was #5

Millican with a puff of smoke just past half track and he clicked it off...Bernstein with another good looking pass, but will not improve. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.180, 660ft-3.094/277.20 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.808/319.98, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.803/324.51, Was #3
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.844/305.36, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.810/319.60, Was #4

This was a great side-by-side drag race as they are the two quickest passes of the round. Neither driver improves, but still good looking passes. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.149, 660ft-3.053/280.02 mph.
Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.159, 660ft-3.076/277.72 mph.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.850/317.72, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.795/323.81, Was #2
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 6.520/89.36, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.785/322.34, Was #1

worsham begins to smoke the tires around 300 feet. Massey was straight down the groove, but will not improve...Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.839 sec., 330ft-2.159, 660ft-3.082/273.00 mph.
