Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 42nd annual NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: John Anderika Runs 5.608/254.52, Now #3; No Prior Run

2:04 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 32 percent, barometer 29.98 inches, adjusted altitude 1,409 feet, track temperature 124 degrees.

Anderika did not make a qualifying attempt in the first session. He took his car straight down the groove to move into the third spot in the order.


Left Lane: Todd Veney No Time, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.860/151.07, Was #14
Right Lane: Cassie Simonton Runs 10.044/126.76, Now #17; No Prior Run

Veney's car trailed smoke at the end of his first qualifying run. This time, he started his burnout and the car died, so he did not make a run this session. Simonton spun the rear tires as soon as she launched and got off the throttle.

Right Lane: Lou Sgro Runs 5.629/258.57, Now #4; Best prior run: 8.170/220.22, Was #16

John Headley was supposed to be in the left lane but he and his crew could not get the car started, so he did not make a second qualifying pass.

Left Lane: Wayne Morris Runs 8.631/136.91, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.436/237.59, Was #13
Right Lane: Dan Roman Runs 6.159/219.65, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.942/146.51, Was #16

Both Morris and Roman shook the rear tires of their cars when they launched. Roman pedaled and got back into the run. Morris clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Marie Ferriolo Runs 8.376/76.82, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.341/237.30, Was #13
Right Lane: Frederick Tigges Runs 5.738/231.00, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.998/250.00, Was #11

Ferriolo got out to mid track when the blower popped and the chutes came out.

Left Lane: Paul Gill Runs 5.631/231.87, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.858/218.97, Was #11
Right Lane: Alexis De Joria Runs 5.605/262.44, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.753/262.44, Was #10

De Joria's car had a little wiggle coming out of the gate but she moved up seven spots in the order. Gill moved up five spots with a good pass down the groove.

Left Lane: Dan Pomponio Runs 5.663/244.92, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.732/253.37, Was #10

Pomponio had his career best ET to move up two spots in the order.

Left Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.490/264.34, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.491/264.91, Was #1
Right Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 5.556/261.27, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.563/260.16, Was #2

Manzo shaved a thousandth of a second off his first session time. Ferro was quicker too, but not quick enough to move up in the order.
