Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 42nd annual NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Tom Pickett No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Richard Bourke Runs 5.427/259.86, Now #1

12:13 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 36 percent, barometer 30.01 inches, adjusted altitude 1,154 feet, track temperature 109 degrees.

Pickett never staged and times out. He took off down the track, then his chutes came out at mid track.


Left Lane: Mike Comella Runs 5.381/259.16, Now #1
Right Lane: Karen Stalba Runs 5.453/263.10, Now #3

Comella's first race in a Top Alcohol Dragster was last week in a Northeast Division points race at Maple Grove Raceway. He Had his best ET of the season with a nice pass down the quarter mile. Stalba had her career best speed to move into the number three spot for now.

Left Lane: Mike Kosky Runs 9.202/88.47, Now #4
Right Lane: Dave DeAngelis Runs 10.035/84.70, Now #5

Kosky is trying to qualify for his 151st national event and 28th event here at Englishtown. This time, both he and DeAngelis shook the rear tires and shut down at 330 feet.

Left Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.360/269.03, Now #1
Right Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.728/190.67, Now #5

Mercier moved into the top spot for now with a good pass down the track. Fricke's car lost a blower belt at about 1,000 feet.

Left Lane: Brandon Greco Runs 5.430/260.31, Now #4
Right Lane: Bruce Horner Runs 5.567/236.22, Now #6

Horner has been at every race here at Englishtown since NHRA added Top Alcohol Dragster in 1981. This was a pair of clean runs that put both drivers into the field.

Left Lane: Daniel Page Runs 5.298/269.29, Now #1
Right Lane: Monroe Guest Runs 11.270/94.95, Now #11

Page is driving Art Gallant's dragster. Guest smoked the rear tires coming off the starting line, then got the front wheels in the air. When the front end came down, the car moved to the left, so he clicked it off. Page had his career best ET and speed to take over the top spot.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 9.258/99.33, Now #11
Right Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.515/242.41, Now #7

Finke smoked the rear tires as soon as he launched and shut down before he reached 330 feet. Reichert's run looked okay but never got up to speed.

Left Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.424/252.05, Now #4
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.588/232.63, Now #10

Both runs looked okay but neither was very quick. That's it for the first qualifying session.
