HAMMOND, La. --
This season, team patriarch Larry Cummings drove his Chevrolet Cavalier to the IHRA Division 4 Super Stock Championship on the strength of a trio of victories along the Pro-Am trail. In addition, Larry took runner-up honors at the IHRA Spring Nationals in Rockingham, and was runner-up in the Summit All-Stars event in Virginia. Team driver Jody "Cool" Simoneaux earned his first NHRA Division Championship, claiming the Division 4 title in Stock behind the wheel of the team's Moser Engineering backed Chevy II. Simoneaux earned a victory at the Atlanta LODRS, a runner-up in Dallas, and a number of late round finishes to claim the championship over teammate Slate Cummings, who finished second. Former IHRA World Champion Britt Cummings doubled up at an IHRA Pro-Am event early in the season, taking top honors in both Top Dragster and Quick Rod before spending much of the remainder of the season closer to home tending to numerous family and business interests that make the teams success possible. "As a team, I don't know if 2010 would be considered our best season overall, but its right up there," said Britt Cummings. "There is no doubt that 2010 was Slate's best season to date; it seems like he just gets better every year. Of course I'm a little biased as his brother, but I feel like he's one of the best all around drivers out there right now." Slate Cummings 2010 season was nothing short of spectacular. He kicked off the season with a victory at the weather delay 2009 IHRA Tournament of Champions, where he won the Super Stock runoff to claim the third IHRA World Championship of his career. He won his first NHRA National Event in Houston in April, and went on to appear in an incredible five NHRA National Event finals rounds throughout the season (adding Stock victories in Bristol and Las Vegas to his Super Stock crown in Houston). He finished the season as the 2nd ranked driver in NHRA Stock Eliminator, just 20 marks behind national champion Brad Burton. He also captured a top ten finish in Super Stock, as he ended the season in the 9th position nationally. Cummings took 2nd place honors in the Division 4 points chase in both Super Stock and Stock. In addition to his five national event final round appearances, he also tacked on a win at the divisional level along with a pair of LODRS runner-ups. As if that weren't enough, Cummings also took runner-up honors at the IHRA Nitro Jam at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park and gathered a pair of IHRA Pro-Am victories in four final round appearances. Outside of NHRA and IHRA competition, Cummings excelled in limited appearances along the big dollar bracket tour as well. He was runner-up in a $5,000 event at the Great American Race in nearby Belle Rose, LA, and enjoyed a $20,000 windfall with a win during the Million Dollar Race Weekend at Muncie Dragway in Indiana. "It's been a great year," said Slate Cummings. "Like everyone but the champ, I keep looking back on a few runs in Stock and kicking myself. I would have loved to be the champion. But we have to consider the season a huge success. We did really well on just about every level. I was in six national event finals and finished in the top ten with both cars. Dad won a division championship and so did Cool. It's hard to ask for any more than that!" The Cummings team looks forward to 2011, where they will continue their longstanding relationship with Moser Engineering. The Cummings Motorsports team will once again pursue the NHRA Lucas Oil Championship in a variety of categories, mixing in several IHRA and big dollar bracket races as their schedule allows. In addition to Moser Engineering, the Cummings team credited a number of manufacturers and marketing partners for their continued success. Those companies include FTI Torque Converters, Reher & Morrison, River Parrish RV, Meguiars, Trick Switch Panels, CSR Performance Products, B&M Performance, Borla, Brodix Cylinder Heads, Mickey Thompson Tires, K&N, Holley Performance, Amalie Oil, Weld Wheels, Richmond Gear, Altronics, Harwood, Nitroplate, Edelbrock, Mr. Gasket, Wegner Racing Engines, Biondo Racing Products, Auto Meter, Phantom Race Cars, Simpson Safety Equipment, Sullivan Transmissions, The Race Shop, H&F Performance, Folk Race Cars, and Milodon.
