Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

LAS VEGAS - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 10th annual NHRA Las Vegas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: Brian Smith Runs 9.519/154.42, Now #21; Best prior run: 11.505/76.36, Was #21

Smith was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle.

Left Lane: Mark Woznichak Runs 5.715/255.24, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.381/195.96, Was #20
Right Lane: Ken Webster No Time, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.823/250.60, Was #15

Webster left before the tree was activated, and he won't get a time. Woznichak with a real nice pass, straight down the groove to get in the show. Mark Woznichak's incremental times: 60ft-0.996 sec., 330ft-2.568, 660ft-3.794/202.64 mph, 1,000ft-4.834. That will bump out Westerfield.

Left Lane: Steve Gasparrelli Runs 5.718/250.09, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.232/249.63, Was #19
Right Lane: Keeter Ray Runs 14.063/74.48, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.746/249.76, Was #13

Ray with a lot tire shake right off the starting line and he clicked it off. Gasparrelli made a quick move toward the centerline and he did a great job reeling it in. He gets in the show and that will bump out Webster.

Left Lane: Jessica Cherniack Runs 5.838/246.57, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.052/202.45, Was #20
Right Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 12.846/44.85, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.727/258.17, Was #10

Bartone with shake right off the starting line and he clicked it off. Cherniack launched hard and was straight down the groove with her career quickest and fastest pass. She just misses making the show. Jessica Cherniack's incremental times: 60ft-0.998 sec., 330ft-2.593, 660ft-3.854/196.19 mph, 1,000ft-4.926.

Left Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 5.872/246.08, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.048/241.24, Was #20
Right Lane: Bret Williamson Runs 5.715/252.71, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.695/249.95, Was #8

Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 28 percent, barometer 27.79 inches, adjusted altitude 3,758 feet, track temperature 82 degrees.

Westerfield with his quickest pass of the weekend, but he will not get in the show. Another good pass for Williamson, but he will not move up the ladder.

Right Lane: Terry Ruckman Runs 5.656/256.60, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.658/251.81, Was #6

Ruckman with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder one spot. Terry Ruckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.527, 660ft-3.742/204.32 mph, 1,000ft-4.779. Lombardo Jr. launched hard and then had a little wiggle in the middle of the track, but still goes to the number one spot. John Lombardo Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.959 sec., 330ft-2.505, 660ft-3.719/204.70 mph, 1,000ft-4.749.

Left Lane: Steve Burck Runs 5.787/247.16, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.818/242.89, Was #17
Right Lane: Alexis De Joria Runs 5.785/254.18, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.658/256.84, Was #7

Burck with his quickest pass of the weekend, but not enough to get in the show...DeJoria with another good looking pass, but she will not improve. Alexis De Joria's incremental times: 60ft-0.951 sec., 330ft-2.582, 660ft-3.840/199.26 mph, 1,000ft-4.897.

Right Lane: Sean O'Bannon Runs 5.632/256.60, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.656/253.42, Was #6

Henry with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder...Brent Henry's incremental times: 60ft-1.001 sec., 330ft-2.565, 660ft-3.786/202.36 mph, 1,000ft-4.828. O'Bannon moves up to the number four spot with a real nice pass. Sean O'Bannon's incremental times: 60ft-0.974 sec., 330ft-2.516, 660ft-3.726/205.13 mph, 1,000ft-4.757.

Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.602/257.14, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.741/253.71, Was #15
Right Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 5.722/254.04, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.640/255.97, Was #5

Payne with a great pass, as he was straight down the groove into the number one spot. Jay Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.945 sec., 330ft-2.482, 660ft-3.693/204.82 mph, 1,000ft-4.728. Gordon with another good pass, but will not improve. Doug Gordon's incremental times: 60ft-0.974 sec., 330ft-2.563, 660ft-3.793/201.55 mph, 1,000ft-4.837.

Left Lane: John Bojec Runs 18.240/31.77, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.737/253.80, Was #15
Right Lane: Clint Thompson Runs 5.606/258.07, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.627/256.65, Was #4

Bojec was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Thompson launched hard and blasted through to the number two spot. Clint Thompson's incremental times: 60ft-0.952 sec., 330ft-2.493, 660ft-3.703/205.57 mph, 1,000ft-4.734.

Left Lane: John Evanchuk Runs 5.766/252.52, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.729/248.57, Was #14
Right Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 5.596/257.48, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.622/239.65, Was #4

Evanchuk with another good looking pass, but he will not improve. John Evanchuk's incremental times: 60ft-1.039 sec., 330ft-2.599, 660ft-3.827/201.19 mph, 1,000ft-4.876. Ferro started this session in the number one spot, and had got bumped down to the number four spot. Ferro launches hard and goes straight back to the number one spot with a great pass and the first pass this weekend into the 5.50's. Mickey Ferro's incremental times: 60ft-0.944 sec., 330ft-2.474, 660ft-3.687/203.92 mph, 1,000ft-4.722. This is Ferro's third number one qualifying spot.
