Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

LAS VEGAS - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 10th annual NHRA Las Vegas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: Megan Mc Kernan Runs 5.620/248.89, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.734/249.26, Was #17

4:12 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 27 percent, barometer 27.77 inches, adjusted altitude 3,876 feet, track temperature 87 degrees.

Mc Kernan makes her quickest pass of the weekend and gets in on the bump.

Left Lane: Ashley Bart Runs 6.373/155.20, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.626/245.23, Was #17
Right Lane: Don St. Arnaud Runs 5.607/255.24, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.614/246.66, Was #15

Bart was just bumped out and has one last chance to get in the show.St. Arnaud is safely in and will be looking to improve.

Bart had a cylinder out at the hit, then gets about 300 feet out and blows the engine ending her weekend. St. Arnaud improves a little but stays in the 15th spot.

Left Lane: Derek Flynn Runs 5.588/257.33, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.523/261.32, Was #11
Right Lane: Johnny Ahten Runs 5.533/243.24, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.592/232.87, Was #14

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove. Ahten makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up a spot in the field. No improvement for Flynn but another clean pass.

Left Lane: Cody Perkins Runs 5.587/205.54, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.482/261.42, Was #10
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.689/241.50, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.552/247.52, Was #14

Perkins was on a good run but lost a couple of cylinders late and slowed. Shields was a little sluggish off the line but came on strong in the last half of the run.

Cody Perkins' incremental times: 60ft-0.938 sec., 330ft-2.401, 660ft-3.559/212.96 mph, 1,000ft-4.576.
Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.547, 660ft-3.751/206.32 mph, 1,000ft-4.782.

Left Lane: Kyle Rizzoli Runs 6.340/178.45, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.455/259.41, Was #8
Right Lane: Michael Manners Runs 5.433/265.12, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.526/258.37, Was #12

Rizzoli had a couple of cylinders out at the hit and never picked them up. Manners makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up to the sixth spot.

Left Lane: Darren Nicholson Runs 5.424/261.57, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.433/261.12, Was #7
Right Lane: Monroe Guest Runs 5.498/256.31, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.466/260.91, Was #10

Nicholson goes right down Broadway with his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up a spot in the order. Guest makes another good run but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Mike Austin Runs 5.397/264.29, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.406/265.06, Was #5
Right Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 5.502/261.22, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.443/268.33, Was #8

Two good looking runs, both right down the groove. Austin improves a little but not enough to move up in the order. Pierce slows a little from his earlier attempt but stays in the eighth spot.

Left Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.366/263.72, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.361/265.17, Was #2
Right Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.385/268.01, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.379/265.74, Was #4

Severance goes right down the groove with another good consistent pass. Cowie makes a clean run but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.380/268.97, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.354/267.06, Was #1
Right Lane: Mark Taliaferro Runs 5.403/263.51, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.366/266.64, Was #3

Whitely makes another good run and will keep the number one qualifying spot, the fifth of his career. Taliaferro makes another decent pass.
