GAINESVILLE, Fla. --
Long time Florida motorsports journalist Norm Froscher passed away this morning. Many of you know his name from his articles here on Drag Race Central over the past ten years, dealing with the annual International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Driver of the Year voting, or from his periodic "Froscher's Forum" articles dealing with whatever happened to be on Norm's mind that he though you ought to know about. But those of us who knew Norm as a friend also knew him for his impish sense of humor, his sly grin, his fierce passion for motorsports journalism, and (before the era of no-smoking media centers) his mangled cigar. Please note the phrase, "motorsports journalism." Norm wrote about and was honored for his coverage of all facets of motorsports, not just drag racing. Norm was a fixture in Florida's very active motorsports journalism corps well before there was a Drag Race Central. In fact, his Florida motorsports journalism background goes back to the early years of NASCAR and the NHRA. Norm was proof of the old saying, "There's no such thing as a former Marine." Small of build, Norm was proud of being a Marine and teamed with Doug Herbert to host a group of Marine veterans at the Gainesville event. Semper Fi, Norm, we are proud to have known you and we will miss you. When we receive his memorial information, we will pass it along.
