MORRISON, Colo. --
Bogner, of Kearney, Neb., drove his SS/CS Daytona to a final-round victory over Henry Sliwinski and his SS/IA '69 Camaro. Sliwinski, of Centennial, Colo., crossed the finish line .016 over his 11.14 target to Bogner's 10.333 (10.31) but Bogner's swift .002-second reaction time to Sliwinski's .090 start was the decider.
Sliwinski, Super Gas winner at the 2005 Route 66 Nationals in Chicago, advanced to his second final with round wins over Jim Voth, who red-lighted in the first round, Phil Unruh, who fell by a mere .0006-second in their tight second round match, and Jeffrey Johnson, who saw red in their quarterfinals meeting. Sliwinski was a sharp .005 at the tree to Allan Patterson's .028 in the semifinals and then ran closer to his dial to survive their double-breakout race. Golden, Colo.'s Burton, this season's Stock Eliminator Winternationals winner, claimed his second big Wally of the year and the fourth of his career when young Tim Fletcher, competing in his first national event, left .020-second too soon in the money round.
Fletcher, son of renowned touring sportsman racer and multi-time national champion Dan, was second off the starting line but ran closer to his dial than Keith Lynch to begin his impressive ascension to the title round. Fletcher, who turned 18 the week prior to the event, drove his dad's familiar F/SA '69 Camaro to a double-breakout victory over Larry Henderson before scoring in a round-three pairing with Dic Geary in which the third generation racer cut a superior light and was nine-thousandths over his dial to Geary's .005-over effort. In the quarters, Fletcher took a sizable advantage off the starting line, .017 to Jimmy Holzman's .076, and logged a 12.182 (12.09) to 10.432 (10.38) for a critical victory that was good for a bye run into the final.
Edwards, of Cameron, Mo., was knocking his opponents down early with a string of stellar reactions. He was .017 on the launch in his Undercover rail to Michael Hunt's fouling -.005 in the first round and then was .010 and four-thousandths over the altitude-adjusted 9.50 index to beat Frank Nichol's breakout 9.485 in round two. Edwards, with another great .014 reaction time, was on the winning end of a double-breakout with Kariann Bombard in round four before gaining a bye run into the final on Gary Stinnett's .004 red-light to his .005. Roswell, N.M., resident Dennis was on the right side of the number in respective third and fourth round competitions with breakout opponents John Wescott and Butch Kleewein to earn the quarterfinals bye and then won a squeaker over Matt Berckefeldt in the semifinals in which Dennis was .039 to his opponent's better .020 at the starting line but clocked a 9.520 to 9.548 to notch the win by nine-thousandths.
Among others, Blair, Neb., racer Wiblishouser picked up round-wins over red-lighting Brett Schneider (round three), and Super Comp runner-up Dennis (round four) before gearing up for the final round in his '07 Corvette with a semifinals bye run. Maddox, of Sidney, Neb., was just nine-thousandths over the index in his '07 Prowler to put Dustin Long on the trailer for the third-round bye. Bob Fuller fouled by five-thousandths in the quarterfinals, and in a close semifinals race, Craig Anderson (.003) and Maddox (.007) were separated by just four thousandths at the tree and then both broke out, Maddox with a winning 10.465 to Anderson's 10.460.
Dexter, who hails from Centennial, Colo., collected round wins in his '68 Camaro over a bushel of worthy opponents, including recent Allstars winner, six-time national event finalist, and 2009 Northern SPORTSnationals winner Steve Domingues, who he blocked from advancing to a seventh career final in the semis. En route to his first final, Mitchell, the No. 1 qualifier in his '71 Camaro, accumulated accomplishments, including in round three when he overcame Patricia Heber's near-perfect .001 start with a closer to the index 11.535 to 11.565 for a bye into the semi's, where Scott Allen was .001 in the red.
