Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By David Gerard

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Justin Schriefer Runs 12.690/62.66, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.124/300.26, Now #1; No Prior Run

10:14 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer 29.06 inches, adjusted altitude 2,679 feet, track temperature 90 degrees.

Neither car made a pass in the first session. Cruz Pedregon is on the bump spot at 4.568.

Schriefer is up in smoke at the hit and clicks it early.

Lee lays down a terrific run with Dunn's first 300 MPH pass. He goes into the current #1 spot and takes over the track MPH record. That's not likely to last for long.

Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.911 sec., 330ft-2.336, 660ft-3.316/261.88 mph.

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 10.199/75.22, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.110/304.46, Now #1; No Prior Run

Heads first pass was DQ'ed, when he clipped the wall and Tasca's Mustang broke a push rod on the burnout and was shut off.

Back to back low ET's and track MPH records, with a clean pass for Tasca this time from start to finish.

Head's Solara is up in smoke at the hit.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.905 sec., 330ft-2.327, 660ft-3.308/261.52 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.069/306.40, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.272/287.60, Was #12
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.396/208.07, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.568/186.87, Was #14

Ron Capps is on the bump spot at 4.272, but not for long. The NAPA Charger moved hard at the green with a strong 0.896 sixty foot time and just thundered down the track to leapfrog the field and take the new number one position and track ET and MPH records.

Pedregon was on a good pass until after the 660 foot lights, where the flames dropped and the car slowed. His problems continue, as the car stops and is locked up on the track near the top end.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.896 sec., 330ft-2.308, 660ft-3.274/264.91 mph.
Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.900 sec., 330ft-2.306, 660ft-3.326/233.48 mph.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.135/293.28, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.271/284.45, Was #12
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.140/297.16, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.517/205.69, Was #14

10:27 p.m. Tim Wilkerson is on the bump spot this time at 4.271.

...and the hits keep coming, as both cars make major moves up the ladder on a pair of clean and straight passes into the near the top of the field. Neat!

Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.900 sec., 330ft-2.324, 660ft-3.310/257.19 mph.
Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.333, 660ft-3.324/258.32 mph.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 6.132/108.30, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.256/291.89, Was #13
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.087/313.15, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.254/292.84, Was #12

Del Worsham is on the bump spot at 4.254. If the pattern holds we will have two more cars in the teens.

Force is away first and then starts to have traction problems before the 330 light and slows.

Worsham has the big McCullough/AJ power and runs a huge MPH to take over the current #2 spot. He will take over the track MPH record too.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.400, 660ft-4.106/124.96 mph.
Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.917 sec., 330ft-2.339, 660ft-3.305/266.64 mph.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 5.537/127.49, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.233/291.95, Was #12
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.060/310.27, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.229/294.05, Was #11

In the fourth pair in a row, Jeff Arend is on the bump spot at 4.233.

Fast Jack makes a huge run to bump his teammate down by 0.009 seconds. An almost flawless pass.

Arend was right behind him until near the 660 lights, where he loses traction and slows. That sets the bump for tonight.

Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.904 sec., 330ft-2.378, 660ft-3.831/147.94 mph.
Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.893 sec., 330ft-2.300, 660ft-3.271/263.72 mph.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Hood Runs 4.032/311.99, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.177/290.07, Was #9
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.235/273.39, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.191/295.46, Was #11

That pass by Force-Hood, puts a nail in the rest of the field with only two cars to go. She sets a new personal best, track ET record, and the new #1 spot on rhe ladder

Bode is no match and slows on the top end to stay #11

Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.284, 660ft-3.247/266.42 mph.
Bob Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.922 sec., 330ft-2.410, 660ft-3.395/257.48 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.043/307.09, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.043/307.09, Was #2
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.067/310.05, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.067/310.05, Was #4

A great final pair with flames over the tops of the roofs of both cars and clean and straight passes a pair.

Hight gets a small lead off the line, buy Hagen has all of the numbers from there on down the track. He takes over the #2 spot and Hight end up #4

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.294, 660ft-3.253/267.11 mph.
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.893 sec., 330ft-2.311, 660ft-3.280/265.90 mph.

10:44 p.m. Ashley Force-Hood is #1 at 4.032 and Jeff Arend is on the bump spot at 4.233.
