Pro Modified Qualifying Notes, Session #1

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Chuck Cheeseman Runs 9.093/90.98, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 81 degrees, relative humidity 52 percent, barometer 29.13 inches, adjusted altitude 3,144 feet, track temperature 124 degrees.

Cheeseman with a lot tire shake as soon as he hit the throttle and clicked it off.


Left Lane: Pat Musi Runs 5.961/229.98, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 6.095/238.81, Now #2

Musi with some engine smoke on the top end, but still a good pass. Knowles with a good clean pass.

Left Lane: Burton Auxier Runs 6.132/203.40, Now #3
Right Lane: Brad Personett Runs 7.808/138.00, Now #4

Personett clicked it off early...Auxier was straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Chip King Runs 9.337/94.89, Now #7
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.027/235.10, Now #2

King got real loose and close to the wall before he clicked it off. Smith with a nice pass straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Dennis Radford Runs 7.718/112.82, Now #5
Right Lane: Raymond Commisso Runs 20.760/33.94, Now #9

This was a weird one for Commisso as it looked like he doubled step it and then coasted on through the 1320. Radford was mixing up cylinders on the top end and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 8.649/117.20, Now #8
Right Lane: Roger Burgess Runs 8.108/145.89, Now #7

Both cars are up in smoke right off the starting line and pedal it, but lose traction again before they click them off.

Left Lane: Rick Stivers Runs 6.096/240.25, Now #5
Right Lane: Joe Baker Runs 6.048/237.96, Now #3

Baker is straight down the groove...Joe Baker's incremental times: 60ft-1.007 sec., 330ft-2.656, 660ft-3.977/187.65 mph, 1,000ft-5.102. Stivers with a nice pass to get in the top half of the field. Rick Stivers' incremental times: 60ft-1.011 sec., 330ft-2.696, 660ft-4.033/187.36 mph, 1,000ft-5.156.

Left Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 6.842/146.83, Now #8
Right Lane: Scott Ray Runs 6.046/237.34, Now #3

Hoover's engine let go and we have stuff on the track. Nice pass for Ray and he goes to the number three spot. Scott Ray's incremental times: 60ft-1.049 sec., 330ft-2.678, 660ft-3.984/189.68 mph, 1,000ft-5.100.

Left Lane: Mike Janis Runs 7.558/130.99, Now #9
Right Lane: Tony Pontieri No Time, Now #17

Janis shook hard right off the starting line and clicked it off. Pontieri with a lot of tire shake right off the starting line and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 11.629/70.45, Now #17
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.018/235.43, Now #2

Castellana with a lot tire shake and got real loose and close to the wall before he clicked it off. Coughlin with a nice looking pass, straight down the groove to go to the number two spot. Troy Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.981 sec., 330ft-2.624, 660ft-3.940/188.04 mph, 1,000ft-5.064.

Left Lane: Kenny Lang Runs 6.073/237.75, Now #6
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 12.523/82.70, Now #19

Payne shook right off the starting line and he clicked it off. Lang with a nice pass to get into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 17.477/36.89, Now #21
Right Lane: Von Smith Runs 9.286/84.98, Now #17

Rowe shook right off the starting line and clicked it off. Smith launched with the wheels in the air and then got real loose before he clicked it off.
