Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 41st annual NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 4.052/274.16, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 4.208/264.13, Now #14; No Prior Run

4:11 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 89 degrees, relative humidity 46 percent, barometer 29.90 inches, adjusted altitude 2,827 feet, track temperature 112 degrees.

Neither driver had an official qualifying run before this session. Both drivers made it down the track with Chrisman losing cylinders at 800 feet and Palmer losing cylinders as he crossed the finish line. Both drivers made the field with these runs.


Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.921/301.54, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.915/306.33, Was #12
Right Lane: Doug Foley Runs 5.368/123.38, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.022/142.00, Was #15

Foley smoked the tires at 330 feet and the car got loose before he got it back under control. McMillen went down the groove but did not move up in the qualifying order.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 4.126/212.79, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.835/313.95, Was #7
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.897/304.53, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.913/302.69, Was #11

Lucas and Langdon were side-by-side to mid track, when Langdon's car started dropping cylinders. Lucas had a nice pass and moved up one spot.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.932/306.19, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.819/313.07, Was #5
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.894/309.20, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.893/307.79, Was #9

Two straight runs down the groove with no change in the order.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.886/310.91, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.817/315.86, Was #4
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.900/305.91, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.853/314.90, Was #8

Kalitta lost some cylinders at the end of the run.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.856/315.64, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.814/318.24, Was #3
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.881/302.69, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.830/319.52, Was #6

Two good runs, no change in the order.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.988/235.27, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.752/324.75, Was #1
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.860/310.05, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.807/313.73, Was #2

Both drivers had good runs going, then started dropping cylinders. McClenathan is the number one qualifier and will have a bye in the next round.
