Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 41st annual NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Thomas Carter Runs 5.722/239.44, Now #5; No Prior Run

2:11 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 29.95 inches, adjusted altitude 2,439 feet, track temperature 106 degrees.

Carter eft before the tree in his first qualifying attempt. This time, he had a nice run. His car trailed a bit of smoke past the finish line.


Left Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 5.615/254.52, Now #2; Best prior run: 13.210/72.04, Was #13
Right Lane: Melinda Green-King Runs 5.854/244.52, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.244/230.96, Was #11

Ferro moved up 11 spots with a nice run. Green-King moved up one spot.

Left Lane: Wayne Morris Runs 6.635/163.97, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.850/242.36, Was #9
Right Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 5.699/256.84, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.049/253.66, Was #12

Morris shook the tires and clicked it off early. Tigges had his career best speed and moved up six spots in the order.

Left Lane: Larry Dobbs Runs 5.835/237.17, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.784/228.04, Was #9
Right Lane: John Anderika Runs 5.663/252.24, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.905/250.83, Was #12

Two smooth runs that moved Anderika up seven spots in the order.

Left Lane: Eric Lourie Runs 5.767/243.11, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.664/251.11, Was #6
Right Lane: Todd Veney No Time, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.645/221.82, Was #4

Veney drifted out of the groove and ran along the centerline for about a hundred feet. Then, it moved over just a little bit more and crossed the centerline, taking out one of the foam blocks. Lourie's run looked okay but was not quicker than yesterday.

Left Lane: Alexis De Joria Runs 5.646/257.73, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.623/255.48, Was #3
Right Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.633/256.50, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.476/262.33, Was #1

Both drivers had nice runs, with Manzo's car bouncing a bit at mid track. That ends alcohol qualifying here this weekend. Manzo is the number one qualifier in Top Alcohol Funny Car for the 77th time in his career.
