Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 41st annual NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Eric Lourie Runs 5.664/251.11, Now #1

11:52 a.m. - Lourie took his car down the groove.

Left Lane: John Headley Runs 6.666/158.00, Now #3
Right Lane: Neal Parker Runs 5.732/249.90, Now #2

Headley spun the tires coming off the starting line and it sounded as if he never shifted. Parker ran his career best ET and speed but then never opened his chutes. The car went off the track into the sand. We'll be down here for a while.

Left Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 6.049/253.66, Now #3
Right Lane: Thomas Carter No Time, Now #5

6:35 p.m. - This is the continuation of the first session of Top Alcohol Funny Car qualifying that began shortly before noon. That session was interrupted when Neal Parker went into the nets and succumbed to injuries.

Carter staged and left before the tree was activated. Tigges launched, shook the rear tires, pedaled it and finished the run.


Left Lane: Melinda Green-King Runs 6.244/230.96, Now #5
Right Lane: Larry Dobbs Runs 5.784/228.04, Now #3

Green=king had some tire shake out of the gate but drove through it.

Left Lane: John Anderika Runs 5.905/250.83, Now #5
Right Lane: Wayne Morris Runs 5.850/242.36, Now #4

Anderika's car got out of the groove at mid track. Morris had a fairly clean run with just a bit if shake at the start.

Left Lane: Todd Veney Runs 5.645/221.82, Now #2
Right Lane: Alexis De Joria Runs 5.623/255.48, Now #1

Veney's car lost some cylinders as he crossed the finish line. De Joria had a nice run down the track to take the top spot in the order for now, with Veney in second place.

Left Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.476/262.33, Now #1
Right Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 13.210/72.04, Now #12

Ferro's rear tires went up in smoke right out of the gate. Manzo took his car right down the groove to move into the number one spot in the qualifying order.
