Top Fuel Round 3 Eliminations
By Rick Green

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Results of round 3 eliminations in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 26th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals:

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

 Prior rounds:
E2 (D Grubnic ) 0.087 3.986 290.51 (S Chrisman ) 0.099 3.881 303.78
E1 (C Karamesine) 0.091 3.996 313.44 (S Langdon ) 0.108 3.843 315.49
 Qualified: #2 3.825 317.05 #11 3.935 297.55
Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 28.70 inches, adjusted altitude 2,379 feet, track temperature 71 degrees.

Lucas is 7 - 6 against Kalitta in prior events. They leave together and they both start to lose traction. Kalitta is off and on the throttle a couple times and finally gets it tot hook up and takes the win light. Lucas was up in smoke and pedaled it and was back up in smoke.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
475 Steve Torrence 4 Cory McClenathan
E3 0.073 No Time ****WINNER**** 0.123 3.812 311.70
 Prior rounds:
E2 (T Schumacher) 0.056 3.841 315.27 (T Buff ) 0.110 3.829 315.27
E1 (T McMillen ) 0.100 3.905 307.58 (M Strasburg ) 0.135 3.843 315.86
 Qualified: #8 3.871 306.81 #5 3.841 310.63
Torrence is 2 - 1 against McClenathan in prior events. Torrence is out of the gate first and then bangs the blower and the chutes are deployed. McClenathan launched hard and keep it hooked up for the win and the quickest pass of the event. Apparently McClenathan used up an engine on the top end as there was a big cloud of engine smoke and the Safety Safari is rolling. McClenathan will have lane choice in the final.
