Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 26th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 4.107/285.23, Now #7; Best prior run: 9.446/93.60, Was #14

Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 26 percent, barometer 28.56 inches, adjusted altitude 3,142 feet, track temperature 96 degrees.

Chrisman launched hard and keep the candles lit all the way to get in the show. That bumps out Buff. Brandon Bernstein is on the bump spot at 7.100.


Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.904/312.57, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.100/91.35, Was #12
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 4.076/226.77, Now #7; Best prior run: 10.795/75.28, Was #15

McMillen started drifting out of the groove and was getting real close to the wall before he clicked it off. Bernstein was straight down the groove with a great looking pass. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.194, 660ft-3.127/272.12 mph.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.309/215.20, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.655/113.81, Was #12
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.871/306.81, Now #3; Best prior run: 9.399/76.05, Was #15

Torrence launched hard and keep it hooked up all the way through the 1000 feet to go to the number three spot. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.175, 660ft-3.090/273.55 mph. Grubnic starting mixing up cylinders and the engine let go with a huge fireball around the 660-foot mark.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.841/310.63, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.058/136.50, Was #12
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 7.435/104.07, Now #15; Best prior run: 8.678/94.18, Was #15

Buff loses traction as soon as he hits the throttle and clicks it off. McClenathan launched hard and keep the big Goodyears stuck to go to the number two spot. Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.832 sec., 330ft-2.157, 660ft-3.072/277.26 mph.

Left Lane: Mike Strasburg Runs 3.975/284.51, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.994/301.60, Was #8
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.825/317.05, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.915/85.69, Was #14

Strasburg was drifting out of the groove and got close to the centerline, but stayed with it for another good looking pass. Mike Strasburg's incremental times: 60ft-0.868 sec., 330ft-2.224, 660ft-3.169/268.17 mph. Kalitta with a great looking pass with the header flames shooting high over the rear wing. He goes to the number one spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.849 sec., 330ft-2.151, 660ft-3.059/276.86 mph.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 6.845/90.82, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.984/274.66, Was #9
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.827/316.60, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.194/130.56, Was #14

Lucas was up in smoke by 400 feet and clicked it off. Schumacher with a great looking pass to go to the number two spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.839 sec., 330ft-2.144, 660ft-3.060/276.07 mph.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.923/262.59, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.870/315.12, Was #5

Langdon slowed on the top end...Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.174, 660ft-3.089/274.00 mph.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 12.914/64.16, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.837/317.57, Was #3
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.884/309.91, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.935/305.01, Was #8

Dixon loses traction as soon as he hits the throttle. Brown with a real nice pass to end the session...Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.182, 660ft-3.104/273.39 mph.
