Nostalgia Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session
By David Gerard

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Nostalgia Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 50th annual Kragen O'Reilly NHRA Winternationals presented by Valvoline listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Josh Crawford Runs 5.925/243.24, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.925/243.24, Was #1
Right Lane: James Day Runs 6.234/233.92, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.234/233.92, Was #3

3:42 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 28.89 inches, adjusted altitude 2,897 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.

Day is in the L.A. Hooker FC. The car gets way loose after the hit and he has to lift.

Great looking pass for Crawford into the #1 spot.

Josh Crawford's incremental times: 60ft-1.033 sec., 330ft-2.657, 660ft-3.923/194.94 mph, 1,000ft-5.007.

Left Lane: Jon Capps Runs 9.877/85.52, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.736/207.27, Was #6
Right Lane: Leah Pruett Runs 5.703/243.11, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.974/228.85, Was #2

The quick two cars are scheduled to run in an elimination round later. Looks like Pruett has a good chance for one of the spots with a terrific looking pass well into the new #1 spot.

Capps car makes a hard move towards the centerline at the hit and he lifts.

Leah Pruett's incremental times: 60ft-0.956 sec., 330ft-2.504, 660ft-3.729/201.16 mph, 1,000ft-4.787.

Left Lane: Twig Zeigler Runs 8.569/117.91, Now #8; Best prior run: 9.115/106.04, Was #8
Right Lane: Ed Schwartz Runs 6.227/232.79, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.281/237.25, Was #4

A ton of clutch dust out the back of the Beach City Corvette and an improving pass.

The left lane bites again, as Zeigler has more problems getting the car under control and to the finish line under power.

Ed Schwartz's incremental times: 60ft-1.082 sec., 330ft-2.780, 660ft-4.137/184.40 mph, 1,000ft-5.272.

Left Lane: Ed Dougan Runs 15.813/51.65, Now #7; Best prior run: 8.314/91.27, Was #7

Utterback can't make the call after yesterday's carnage, so Dougan gets a single.

Well, that won't get him into the finals! The slicks are up in smoke like another burn out at the green.
