Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 50th annual Kragen O'Reilly NHRA Winternationals presented by Valvoline listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: John Lombardo Jr. Runs 5.675/235.02, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.073/223.99, Was #15
Right Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 5.609/260.66, Now #4; Best prior run: 8.041/115.62, Was #16

A couple great looking passes to start the session...both getting into the top half of the field. John Lombardo Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.967 sec., 330ft-2.514, 660ft-3.726/204.73 mph, 1,000ft-4.761.
Doug Gordon's incremental times: 60ft-0.954 sec., 330ft-2.513, 660ft-3.722/205.16 mph, 1,000ft-4.745.

Left Lane: Brian Smith Runs 5.892/222.84, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.930/245.00, Was #16
Right Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 5.887/233.52, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.853/248.16, Was #15

Smith improves, but not enough to get off the bump. No help help here for Rupert.

Left Lane: Ron August Jr Runs 5.731/251.81, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.788/252.57, Was #14
Right Lane: Clint Thompson Runs 5.723/246.17, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.733/252.90, Was #11

August was loose right from the hit and got real close to the center line, but was able to reel it in...he improves two spots on the ladder. Ron August Jr's incremental times: 60ft-0.943 sec., 330ft-2.552, 660ft-3.784/201.79 mph, 1,000ft-4.838. Thompson improves and moves up one spot on the ladder. Clint Thompson's incremental times: 60ft-0.951 sec., 330ft-2.546, 660ft-3.786/202.12 mph, 1,000ft-4.830.

Left Lane: Mark Woznichak Runs 7.190/126.05, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.769/253.75, Was #14
Right Lane: Bret Williamson Runs 10.316/71.18, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.727/248.71, Was #11

Williamson loses traction early and clicks it off. Woznichak loses traction and clicks it off around half track.

Left Lane: Steve Gasparrelli Runs 14.238/21.16, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.742/257.19, Was #13
Right Lane: Brian Thiel Runs 5.849/212.73, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.685/253.90, Was #9

Gasparrelli is up in smoke right at the hit. Thiel clicks it off early.

Left Lane: Brian Hough Runs 6.215/170.15, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.654/256.36, Was #5
Right Lane: Sean O'Bannon Runs 5.582/259.61, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.684/257.14, Was #8

No help here Hough. O'Bannon with a great looking pass and goes to the number two spot. Sean O'Bannon's incremental times: 60ft-0.946 sec., 330ft-2.488, 660ft-3.691/206.23 mph, 1,000ft-4.715.

Right Lane: Keeter Ray Runs 5.686/252.95, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.677/253.42, Was #8

Ray with another nice pas, but doesn't improve. Keeter Ray's incremental times: 60ft-0.956 sec., 330ft-2.515, 660ft-3.747/201.10 mph, 1,000ft-4.797.

Left Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 10.463/76.18, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.570/257.28, Was #1
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.763/254.62, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.599/260.51, Was #4

Bartone lost traction right at the hit. Payne with a nice clean pass...Jay Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.976 sec., 330ft-2.575, 660ft-3.827/199.11 mph, 1,000ft-4.879.
