Oliver won the preceding race, in Las Vegas. O'Bannon was looking for his first national event win in TAFC.

O'Bannon beat Oliver at his own game, leaving first, and even a career-best run by the rookie (both ET and speed) was not enough to close the gap. Sean O'Bannon's incremental margins: 60ft(0.005), 330 ft(0.002), 660ft(0.012), 1,000ft(0.022). MOV: 0.0288 seconds (approximately 11 feet). Great race, too bad the scrambled schedule had most of the crowd heading for their cars instead of watching it.
