Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #3
By David Gerard

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 45th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.704/208.30, Now #13; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 45 percent, barometer 28.90 inches, adjusted altitude 2,299 feet, track temperature 8712:17 p.m. degrees.

12:18 p.m. Next to last qualifying attempt for Morgan's Stratus, with a new 2010 Ford Mustang in his future.

The car moves hard out of the groove at the hit and Morgan has his hands full. He drives right on through it to move into the bottom of the extended sixteen field. That may not last long.

Left Lane: Danny Gruninger Runs 6.756/205.88, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 16.280/49.99, Now #15; No Prior Run

Cunningham joins Morgan in jumping out of the groove, but he has to lift.

Gruninger gets a full pull into the #14 spot for now.

Danny Gruninger's incremental times: 60ft-1.013 sec., 330ft-2.851, 660ft-4.359/163.29 mph, 1,000ft-5.660.

Left Lane: Gordie Rivera Runs 6.687/205.66, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.743/204.79, Now #15; No Prior Run

Two straight passes with a strong career best pass for Rivera. Enders car was slow down low and she slides into the #15 spot.

Gordie Rivera's incremental times: 60ft-0.983 sec., 330ft-2.786, 660ft-4.293/163.12 mph, 1,000ft-5.592.
Erica Enders' incremental times: 60ft-1.003 sec., 330ft-2.820, 660ft-4.336/162.47 mph, 1,000ft-5.643.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.717/206.70, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Ben Watson Runs 14.533/56.94, Now #18; No Prior Run

Look out! The two cars both get out of the groove right off the starting line and point right at each other.

Gaines straightens it out and Watson doesn't. Gaines gets in the field for now and Watson doesn't.

V. Gaines' incremental times: 60ft-1.003 sec., 330ft-2.832, 660ft-4.335/164.27 mph, 1,000ft-5.628.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.587/209.69, Now #2; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.622/209.36, Now #5; No Prior Run

These two are are usually well into the field by now.

Great run for both cars. Ugly RT's, but that doesn't count today. Krisher gets the best of it to move all the way up to the new #2 spot. Johnson's #5 times should hold.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.639/208.68, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.630/208.68, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.637/207.85, Was #12

Larry Morgan is on the bump spot at 6.704.

Two more clean passes and a 0.009 difference in ET gets you a five spot difference on the ladder. #8 and #13.

Warren Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.783, 660ft-4.275/165.50 mph, 1,000ft-5.559.
Dave Northrop's incremental times: 60ft-0.983 sec., 330ft-2.778, 660ft-4.268/165.58 mph, 1,000ft-5.550.

Left Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.615/208.75, Now #4; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.629/208.91, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.632/208.26, Was #11

Gordie Rivera is on the bump spot at 6.687.

A little wiggle for both cars off the line and they run right on down for top half of the field positions.

Vinnie Deceglie's incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.767, 660ft-4.253/165.70 mph, 1,000ft-5.535.
Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.987 sec., 330ft-2.780, 660ft-4.269/165.76 mph, 1,000ft-5.550.

Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.627/209.07, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.642/208.91, Was #16
Right Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.610/210.11, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.632/209.23, Was #12

Johnny Gray is on the bump spot at 6.642 and needs some big numbers to stay in the field.

Looks like they both did their homework with Humphrey's carding a big 210.110 MPH!

Johnny Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.781, 660ft-4.268/166.07 mph, 1,000ft-5.549.
Ronnie Humphrey's incremental times: 60ft-0.986 sec., 330ft-2.772, 660ft-4.256/166.13 mph, 1,000ft-5.534.

Left Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.628/208.71, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.641/208.49, Was #16
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.587/209.49, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.630/208.91, Was #11

Rickie Jones is on the bump spot this time at 6.641.

Jones' Dodge make a hard move at the shift and he has to pull it back into the groove.

Great pass for Line, but he has to settle for #3 based on MPH.

Left Lane: Ryan Ondrejko Runs 6.615/208.14, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.635/208.07, Was #15
Right Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.631/209.04, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.621/208.78, Was #7

Brogdon's Foghorn Leghorn say's: "Ya know son, them bonus points are nice, but I think it'll be NEXT year that they'll really come into play for us!"

Warren Johnson is on the bump spot at 6.639. No top three spot for Brogdon this session, as he is bumped down a spot by a strong pass by Ondrejko. Both cars stay in the top half of the field for now.

Ryan Ondrejko's incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.763, 660ft-4.251/165.68 mph, 1,000ft-5.533.
Rodger Brogdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.783, 660ft-4.273/165.64 mph, 1,000ft-5.554.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.607/209.36, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.632/209.26, Was #15
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.606/209.20, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.611/208.78, Was #5

Warren Johnson is on the bump spot at 6.639.

Great conditions and two more great runs for top half of the field performance.

Greg Stanfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.773, 660ft-4.255/166.35 mph, 1,000ft-5.532.
Allen Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.973 sec., 330ft-2.761, 660ft-4.247/165.86 mph, 1,000ft-5.527.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.604/210.18, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.630/209.72, Was #14
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.592/210.31, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.575/210.31, Was #1

Way too much drama!

Both of Anderson's chutes pop out on the burnout and the crew frantically works to get them back in the packs. Edwards shows his sportsmanship and patiently waits.

No burn out for the Summit car and he still gets a 0.985 sixty foot time to help move him up into the #4 spot on the tough Pro Sports ladder.

Another killer pass for Edwards, but he can't improve on his prior best pass.

BTW: The chutes worked in the lights!

Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.772, 660ft-4.254/166.21 mph, 1,000ft-5.529.
Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.981 sec., 330ft-2.765, 660ft-4.245/166.76 mph, 1,000ft-5.519.

12:42 p.m. Warren Johnson is on the bump spot at 6.639.
