MILLINGTON, Tenn. -- Technicoat Companies, a worldwide leader in industrial waterproofing and flooring and longtime associate sponsor with Kalitta Motorsports, will be the primary sponsor this weekend, Oct. 2-4, on the 8,000-horsepower, nitro-fueled Top Fuel dragster driven by Doug Kalitta for the annual running of the O'Reilly NHRA Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park in Millington, Tenn., just a few miles from the Memphis city limits. In addition to Memphis, Kalitta will fly the primary colors for Technicoat Companies for the remainder of the 2009 Full Throttle Drag Racing Series at national events in Richmond, Va., Las Vegas, and Pomona, Calif. Las Vegas-based Technicoat Companies specializes in hi-tech performance coatings and floorings, wearing surfaces for pedestrian traffic and vehicular traffic, as well as new and existing roofs. Technicoat's President Bob Coffman and C.O.O. Glen Williams, a.k.a. "the Cowboys", are fixtures in the Team Kalitta pit area at most NHRA national events with their trademark cowboy hats. Technicoat Companies and Kalitta Motorsports began their marketing partnership near the end of the 2002 NHRA season. "It's always a great thing when we have the Cowboys around, but it's even better when their name is really big on the sides of our dragster," Kalitta's crew chief and Kalitta Motorsports general manager Jim Oberhofer said. "They're more than just sponsors to us, they're family and we're grateful for all that Technicoat Companies does for our team. "Everyone at Team Kalitta is also very grateful to Red Line Oil and ROCKY Boots. We've been fortunate enough with them and with Technicoat to have primary funding for our dragster since Sonoma (Calif.), and that's a big help to our entire racing operation." The Memphis event is the third in NHRA's six-event, season-finalizing "playoffs", the Countdown to 1. Kalitta is currently in the No. 9 points position, 198 points off of the lead. By making this season's Countdown to 1, Kalitta guarantees himself another top-ten finish in championship points, a fete he has incredibly accomplished in every season of his Top Fuel driving career which began with his Rookie of the Year award-winning season in 1998. Kalitta won the Top Fuel title trophy in Memphis in 2006. Kalitta, a 45-year old resident of Ann Arbor, Mich., has 31 NHRA Top Fuel event victories in his career in 58 final-round appearances. He is married to Josie, and they have a son, Mitchell, 8, and a daughter, Avery, 6.
