CONCORD, N.C. -- Kyle Koretsky continued his impressive performances Sunday in the Carolinas Nationals at zMAX Dragway and it took him to a runner-up finish in the tough Competition Eliminator category. This was just the third Comp Eliminator national event for Kenny Koretsky's youngest son. "It was a proud day for me," said the elder Koretsky. "Kyle did a great job and so did the team." Kyle was at the controls of the Nitro Fish Super Modified Chevy Cavalier with crew chief Lump (Brian Self). After wading through four rounds of eliminations, he lined up against veteran driver Rick Brown in the title round. Kyle left the starting line too soon and fouled out, but he was still very happy with his performance. "It was a great weekend," he said. "We were trying our best all day. I am fortunate to be working with a great bunch of guys and I want to thank all of them, and car owner Mike Iacono. "I ran my quickest elapsed time, 8.750 seconds, and fastest speed, 153.40 mph, this weekend, too. We are going to the Las Vegas (Oct. 30-Nov. 1) and Pomona races (Nov. 12-15)."
Angie McBride upset in opening round "That was the first hole-shot loss I've ever had," she said after her opening round setback to Douglas Horne, who left the starting line with an impressive .003 reaction to her .055. "That wasn't bad for the first round, but I couldn't catch him. Our Nitro Fish/Carolina Speed Buell went toward the centerline and that slowed us." Horne lit the win light in 7.118 seconds to McBride's 7.085. "At least I have an opportunity to race again next weekend at Dallas (Ennis, Texas, site of the O'Reilly Super Start Batteries Fall Nationals, Friday through Sunday) with a different bike owner," McBride added. Matt Smith, her fiancee, also fell in the opening round with a foul start aboard the Don Schumacher Racing Nitro Fish Suzuki.
