Funny Car Time Trial Notes, Session #6

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 6 time trials in Funny Car at the NHRA, Indianapolis Test Session Day 2 listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.170/0.00, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.198/0.00, Was #2

6:28 p.m. This time, Hight's car sports an unpainted, black carbon fibre body. This was a very good run, with a nice 660-foot speed. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.896 sec., 330ft-2.354, 660ft-3.353/257.33 mph. Probably should have put this one at the end of "round 5" but he wasn't in line - he will probably be back once more before they close the lanes.
Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 59 percent, barometer 29.17 inches, adjusted altitude 3,238 feet, track temperature 105 degrees.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 6.806/0.00, Now #10; No Prior Run

6:54 p.m. This was a little better, but there was a slight hiccup about 100 feet out and Worsham lost traction about 200 feet out. Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.530, 660ft-4.484/108.04 mph.

The lanes are emoty now as the teams prepare for "happy hour."

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 11.420/76.87, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.249/0.00, Was #5

7:51 p.m. Here we go, down the home stretch...the staging lanes close at 8:30 p.m.

Head lost traction before getting a car length off the starting line. Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-1.104 sec., 330ft-4.570, 660ft-8.210/067.09 mph.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 11.246/0.00, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.319/0.00, Was #8

7:57 p.m. Arend also lost traction right off the starting line...Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-1.126 sec., 330ft-4.661, 660ft-8.140/070.46 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 10.189/0.00, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.884/0.00, Was #12

8:19 p.m. Hagan lost traction as the rear tires passed the Christmas tree. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.962 sec., 330ft-3.793, 660ft-7.020/071.93 mph.

Left Lane: Brian Thiel Runs 4.243/0.00, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.282/0.00, Was #7

8:24 p.m. Thiel made his best run of the day - but he also took out the 1,000-foot timing reflector and the quarter-mile reflectors. If this was an event, the run would not count, but it's only testing and the time is valid. Brian Thiel's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.362, 660ft-3.365/256.31 mph. There are small pieces of the body all over the track. We will be down for a few minutes while the track crew cleans them up.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 7.555/0.00, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.695/0.00, Was #11

8:45 p.m. Pedregon stayed around for a "happy hour" run, but did not manage to finish under power. He lost traction about 300 feet out. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.617, 660ft-4.823/094.90 mph.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Hood Runs 4.157/0.00, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.218/0.00, Was #4

8:54 p.m. Force took over the #1 spot with this run. Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.345, 660ft-3.337/259.66 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 5.581/0.00, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.341/0.00, Was #9

8:58 p.m. Tasca had a strong launch, but lost traction about 300 feet out. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.903 sec., 330ft-2.378, 660ft-3.848/146.07 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.274/0.00, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.205/0.00, Was #3

9:11 p.m. Good run for Capps, but not his best of the day. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.918 sec., 330ft-2.388, 660ft-3.418/247.11 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 5.056/0.00, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.198/0.00, Was #2

9:25 p.m. Hight's final pass ended in tire smoke around 400 feet out. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.901 sec., 330ft-2.335, 660ft-3.592/171.93 mph.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.724/0.00, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.262/0.00, Was #7

9:33 p.m. Beckman's final run of the day started out looking good, but the header flames went up and down several times as he passed the 330-fooot marker. Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.904 sec., 330ft-2.336, 660ft-3.455/198.29 mph.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 7.085/0.00, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.379/0.00, Was #10

9:37 p.m. Worsham is the final flopper of the day and loses traction about 200 feet out. Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.576, 660ft-4.674/100.02 mph.
