Funny Car Time Trial Notes, Session #4

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 4 time trials in Funny Car at the NHRA, Indianapolis Test Session Day 2 listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 5.874/0.00, Now #8; Best prior run: 11.340/0.00, Was #11

3:13 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 50 percent, barometer 29.19 inches, adjusted altitude 3,403 feet, track temperature 127 degrees.

With all the problems in the left lane, Head decided to try the right. He lost traction around the 330-foot marker. Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.909 sec., 330ft-2.397, 660ft-3.975/134.60 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 13.372/0.00, Now #11; Best prior run: 8.700/0.00, Was #10

3:32 p.m. After watching a few cars go down the right lane, Capps' crew moved back to the left. Once again, he lost traction before going a car length. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-1.170 sec., 330ft-5.054, 660ft-9.416/053.85 mph.

Left Lane: Brian Thiel Runs 4.282/0.00, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.948/0.00, Was #9

3:37 p.m. Thiel's team has it figured out - he went down the left lane with no visible problems. Brian Thiel's incremental times: 60ft-0.929 sec., 330ft-2.397, 660ft-3.414/252.14 mph.

Right Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.720/0.00, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.175/0.00, Was #1

3:42 p.m. Neff's run looked good almost to the 660 foot marker, then the car lost traction. Mike Neff's incremental times: 60ft-0.908 sec., 330ft-2.380, 660ft-3.494/204.42 mph.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Hood Runs 4.268/0.00, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.404/0.00, Was #7

3:55 p.m. Force's first full pass of the day was a good one, especially under the current conditions. No visible problems whatsoever. Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.916 sec., 330ft-2.389, 660ft-3.417/249.86 mph.

Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 7.695/0.00, Now #10; No Prior Run

4:01 p.m. Pedregon, who completely skipped pre-season testing this year, chose to test today so he could make a run in hot weather conditions. He had a clean launch, but overpowered the track about 200 feet out. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.917 sec., 330ft-2.648, 660ft-4.900/093.09 mph.

Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.408/0.00, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.319/0.00, Was #4

4:10 p.m. Arend's run looked okay, but the fire went out and the chutes were alread coming out before the 1,000-foot marker. Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.914 sec., 330ft-2.404, 660ft-3.460/241.97 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.225/0.00, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.198/0.00, Was #2

4:14 p.m. Nice run by Hight/Force's car. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.908 sec., 330ft-2.360, 660ft-3.381/250.23 mph.

There's a break in the action and the lanes are empty, so it's time to wrap up round 4.
