Funny Car Time Trial Notes, Session #2

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 2 time trials in Funny Car at the NHRA, Indianapolis Test Session Day 2 listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.271/0.00, Now #2; No Prior Run

11:10 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 68 percent, barometer 29.21 inches, adjusted altitude 2,687 feet, track temperature 95 degrees.

Important Reminder: Since the timing system is not set up for a 1,000-foot finish line, we are manually posting the 1,000-foot ET, with no speed.Beckman was in line when Doug Kalitta left some stuff on the track, had to wait for the cleanup. Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.896 sec., 330ft-2.333, 660ft-3.345/253.52 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 10.319/0.00, Now #8; Best prior run: 8.700/0.00, Was #7

11:16 a.m. Capps smoked the tires about 100 feet out. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.909 sec., 330ft-3.494, 660ft-6.799/066.60 mph.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Hood Runs 6.338/0.00, Now #7; No Prior Run

11:30 a.m. The crew turned the car around quickly after aborting the first run. This time, Force lost traction about 300 feet out. Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.408, 660ft-4.224/117.98 mph.

Left Lane: Brian Thiel Runs 6.948/0.00, Now #8; Best prior run: 9.110/0.00, Was #8

11:56 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 60 percent, barometer 29.20 inches, adjusted altitude 2,991 feet, track temperature 105 degrees.

Thiel got about 200 feet, then lost traction. Brian Thiel's incremental times: 60ft-0.904 sec., 330ft-2.573, 660ft-4.645/104.58 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.198/0.00, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.495/0.00, Was #4

12:10 p.m. Apparently the track is okay, Hight just went right through the area where everyone has been smoking the tires with no problem. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.905 sec., 330ft-2.357, 660ft-3.357/257.63 mph.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 9.582/0.00, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.379/0.00, Was #3

12:17 p.m. Worsham lost traction almost immediately. Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.932 sec., 330ft-3.529, 660ft-6.477/076.20 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 10.294/0.00, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.884/0.00, Was #9

12:21 p.m. Hagan lost traction after about 100 feet. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.960 sec., 330ft-3.767, 660ft-7.071/069.97 mph.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 6.423/0.00, Now #4; No Prior Run

12:25 p.m. Arend did not fare much better, losing traction a little further down the track. Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.477, 660ft-4.277/117.75 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.903/0.00, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.637/0.00, Was #5

12:28 p.m. Tasca got about 500 feet, then there was a puff of tire smoke and he lifted. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.359, 660ft-3.551/185.13 mph.

There's a lull in the action, so let's call this the end of round 2.
