Pro Stock Motorcycle Time Trial Notes, Session #5

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 5 time trials in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA, Indianapolis Test Session Day 1 listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.034/191.08, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.016/185.95, Was #1

6:00 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 51 percent, barometer 29.17 inches, adjusted altitude 3,117 feet, track temperature 113 degrees.
We are on the home stretch for today's testing - the lanes will close at 8 p.m.

Smith was first out in this rotation...and ran top speed of the day on a nice run. Matt Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.085 sec., 330ft-2.933, 660ft-4.497/156.70 mph, 1,000ft-5.863.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.014/188.54, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.037/187.63, Was #2

6:39 p.m. THis was impressive - Ellis ran low ET of the day on a smooth, straight pass, with the quickest 60-foot time so far. Chip Ellis' incremental times: 60ft-1.041 sec., 330ft-2.879, 660ft-4.454/155.54 mph, 1,000ft-5.830.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.451/182.87, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.063/188.89, Was #3

6:50 p.m. Arana's engine bogged badly on the launch, then picked up. Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.215 sec., 330ft-3.182, 660ft-4.808/150.87 mph, 1,000ft-6.228.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.079/188.54, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.066/188.33, Was #4

7:13 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 48 percent, barometer 29.16 inches, adjusted altitude 3,228 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.

Johnson made another full pass, with numbers about the same as earlier runs. Steve Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.067 sec., 330ft-2.922, 660ft-4.507/154.49 mph, 1,000ft-5.891.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 15.368/51.32, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.063/188.89, Was #3

7:39 p.m. Once again Arana's engine bogged badly on the launch, then it sounded like it popped out of gear and he ocasted through. Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.297 sec., 330ft-3.984, 660ft-7.392/063.45 mph, 1,000ft-11.292.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 8.058/172.96, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.063/188.89, Was #3

7:56 p.m. Arana came back down the return road and back into the lanes, while a crew guy went back to the pits and brought a laptop computer to the motorcycle. Whatever they did was no help, the engine bogged even worse than before. Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.312 sec., 330ft-3.469, 660ft-5.236/138.74 mph, 1,000ft-6.759.
