Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Larry Dobbs Runs 6.103/233.92, Now #9; No Prior Run

5:12 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 66 percent, barometer 29.19 inches, adjusted altitude 3,463 feet, track temperature 103 degrees.
There was one qualifying session yesterday but only eight cars made passes before rain ended racing yesterday.

Dobbs took his car straight down the groove to move into the number nine spot for now.

Left Lane: Marc White Runs 5.819/246.35, Now #4; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Paul Gill Runs 6.025/227.50, Now #9; No Prior Run

Gill got a little loose at 330 feet, then drifted out of the groove. White kept his car in the middle of his lane.

Left Lane: Brian Harvanek Runs 5.844/245.72, Now #6; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Frank Schuster Runs 5.753/250.23, Now #2; No Prior Run

Schuster had a nice run to move into number two in the order for now. Harvanek took over the number six spot.

Left Lane: John Anderika Runs 5.777/245.27, Now #5; No Prior Run
Right Lane: John Bojec Runs 5.904/246.26, Now #10; No Prior Run

Bojec got a little loose but drove through it. Anderika took his car straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Terry Munroe Runs 6.304/170.02, Now #18; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 5.784/250.83, Now #6; No Prior Run

Munroe popped a blower and sent the burst panel into the air. Tigges had a nice run to move to the number six spot in the order.

Left Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.619/257.28, Now #1; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Marty Nothstein Runs 5.935/236.92, Now #13; No Prior Run

Manzo did not make a run in the first session yesterday. Today, he came through with a strong pass to take over the number one spot. If he stays there, it will be the tenth time he's qualified number one for this race. Nothstein had some tire shake for the first couple of hundred feet but he drove through it.

Left Lane: DJ Cox Runs 5.845/244.47, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.195/241.11, Was #19
Right Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 5.745/250.88, Now #3; No Prior Run

A pair of clean runs put Cox back into the field and got Ferro into the number three spot for now. Wayne Butler is on the bump spot at 5.949.

Left Lane: John Fiorini Runs 5.808/248.80, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.029/223.14, Was #19
Right Lane: Dan Pomponio Runs 5.974/241.80, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.900/247.07, Was #13

Pomponio drifted right and came close to the wall. He ran along the wall for a few hundred feet before getting back to the middle of the lane. Fiorini had his career best ET and speed on this run.

Left Lane: Wayne Morris Runs 7.000/153.91, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.959/238.98, Was #18
Right Lane: Scott McNiece Runs 5.835/245.58, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.766/247.20, Was #6

Morris shook the rear tires when he launched. He backed off the throttle and got right back on it to finish the run. McNiece was not as quick as yesterday.

Left Lane: Wayne Butler Runs 6.252/183.54, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.949/243.46, Was #17
Right Lane: Eric Lourie Runs 5.772/248.07, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.762/247.16, Was #5

Butler was not quick enough to make the field. Lourie was not as quick as yesterday and will not move in the order.

Left Lane: Dan Roman Runs 5.877/225.60, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.845/248.25, Was #12

Roamn ran close to the wall but was still quick enough to move into the number 12 spot in the order.
