Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Wayne Morris Runs 5.959/238.98, Now #1

1:24 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 65 percent, barometer 29.29 inches, adjusted altitude 3,640 feet, track temperature 108 degrees.
There were dark clouds in the sky as this session started and it looked like rain would be coming in soon.

Morris took his car straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Dan Pomponio Runs 5.900/247.07, Now #1
Right Lane: DJ Cox Runs 6.195/241.11, Now #3

This was the first national event for Pomponio's new car. Both cars went down the middle of the track but drifted near each other at the end of the track.

Left Lane: Scott McNiece Runs 5.766/247.20, Now #1
Right Lane: John Fiorini Runs 6.029/223.14, Now #4

McNiece had a career best ET on this run.

Left Lane: Lou Sgro Runs 5.723/253.95, Now #1
Right Lane: Dan Roman Runs 5.845/248.25, Now #3

Sgro had a clean pass to move into the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Eric Lourie Runs 5.762/247.16, Now #2
Right Lane: Wayne Butler Runs 5.949/243.46, Now #6

Lourie was the runner up here last year. He got out of the groove and mid track and his car got a little loose, but he was still quick enough to move into the number two spot for now.

Left Lane: Paul Gill No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Larry Dobbs No Time, Now #6

1:39 p.m. - After Lourie and Butler made their runs, it started to rain.
