Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

BRAINERD, Minn. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 28th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 4.455/217.39, Now #6; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 91 degrees, relative humidity 51 percent, barometer 28.52 inches, adjusted altitude 4,721 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.

Palmer making his initial pass this weekend and has the header flames shooting high over the rear wing and then the engine went away with a quick fireball just past half track. He still gets into the top half of the show for now. Scott Palmer's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.358, 660ft-3.424/226.66 mph.

Left Lane: Chris Karamesines Runs 4.325/225.48, Now #6; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 4.410/204.73, Now #7; No Prior Run

Karamesines started mixing up cylinders around half track and shut it off early. He still gets into the top half of the field. It appears Novelli pushed out a head gasket on the top end with a quick flash of flame.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.944/289.45, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.460/100.46, Was #14
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.487/243.11, Now #10; No Prior Run

Haddock was dropping cylinders early, but stayed with it to get into the show. Dixon launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.185, 660ft-3.120/266.85 mph.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.157/270.97, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.444/121.04, Was #14

Grubnic was straight5 down the groove and into the top half of the show. David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.255, 660ft-3.271/244.29 mph. Apparently the engine went away on the top end as the Safety Safari trucks roll.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.976/306.95, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.135/137.39, Was #14
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 4.101/254.86, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.576/91.13, Was #16

Langdon was on a good pass and then shut off early, but still gets into the top half of the show. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.864 sec., 330ft-2.237, 660ft-3.229/255.10 mph. Kalitta with a great looking pass to go to the number two spot and he also records top speed of the event as he is the first one to run over 300 mph. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.879 sec., 330ft-2.231, 660ft-3.184/266.21 mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.947/304.46, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.787/156.05, Was #15
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.017/301.13, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.727/113.35, Was #16

This was a good side-by-side pass with Brown goes to the number two spot and Millican goes to the number five spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.192, 660ft-3.148/263.98 mph.
Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.239, 660ft-3.212/261.98 mph.

Left Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 3.984/306.19, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.763/163.51, Was #16
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 4.377/187.94, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.234/257.04, Was #11

Massey was on a good pass until just past half track when the header flames went out and the engine went silent. Hartley with a nice pass to get into the top half of the show, and second fastest pass of the event. Joe Hartley's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.230, 660ft-3.189/265.85 mph.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.942/300.26, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.111/245.40, Was #10
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.965/304.05, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.088/286.80, Was #8

Bernstein with a nice pass to go to the number four spot... Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.203, 660ft-3.167/264.49 mph. Lucas with a great pass to go to then number one spot. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.187, 660ft-3.139/265.80 mph.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.910/305.36, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.004/298.01, Was #7
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.926/300.53, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.062/277.60, Was #9

This was a great drag race to wrap day one of qualifying as these two go to the number one and two spots. Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.834 sec., 330ft-2.173, 660ft-3.117/268.33 mph.
Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.170, 660ft-3.120/265.80 mph.
